At an official ceremony on 20th November 2007 in the National Library of Bulgaria, BNP Paribas' Sofia Branch will formally present its new major donation project.
The National Library “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” will receive over 80 PCs from BNP Paribas. Although this equipment is relatively new and in perfect condition, the Bank has decided to replace these PCs and to donate them to the National Library.
This donation will enable the National Library to make historical manuscripts, old maps, archives and other rare documents available to the Bulgarian people and to provide digital access to an important part of the Bulgarian cultural heritage, not only for the readers of the National Library, but also to a broader network of libraries across Europe. The donated PCs will be also used to improve user access and facilitate the educational and cultural mission to the Bulgarian people.
This important PC donation follows a number of other good social responsibility initiatives by BNP Paribas in Bulgaria, the most significant of which is the Soup Kitchen project, now in its fifth year, for which the Bank received the 2006 “Investor in Community” award from the Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum.
In May this year, a number of BNP Paribas' employees from across Europe renovated the Mezdra Home for handicapped children and made a considerable difference to these children's lives.
Another initiative by BNP Paribas' Sofia Branch, which exemplifies its engagement with the cultural and artistic scene, is its long-term financial support for the New Symphony Orchestra. This has helped the great musical institution to create – without access to public funds – a cultural model of its own, which is unique in Bulgaria.
