BNP Paribas becomes Official Sponsor of the Warsaw J&S Cup, the WTA Tour tournament which is played from April 24th (qualifications) to May 2nd (final) and opens the 2004 season on clay in Europe.
The J&S Cup is one of the major international women tennis tournaments, with prize money of $585,000 and the participation of the world's best tennis players. Last year's edition broke attendance records for Poland with 20,000 spectators over the week and marked the victory of the French player Amelie Mauresmo (defeating Serena Williams), who will be seeded #1 this year. For its 3rd edition, the J&S Cup will be widely broadcast, namely by Eurosport and the Polish national television network.
BNP Paribas has a strong presence in Poland with 500 employees working in corporate and investment banking, asset management (Cardif), consumer loans (Cetelem), fleet management (Arval PHH) and leasing (BNP Paribas Lease Group).
With this new initiative, BNP Paribas confirms its role as the first and longest standing sponsor of all kinds of tennis : Official Sponsor of Roland Garros for 31 years, the group sponsors major international competitions (Davis Cup by BNP Paribas, BNP Paribas Masters, Californian WTA Bank of the West Classic, Strasbourg BNP Paribas Open WTA Tour), and is involved in many local events in France (550 tournaments, pedagogical programs developed by the French Tennis Federation, Yannick Noah's association Fête le Mur).
