To accelerate the development of BNP Paribas' insurance business, which has been identified as a strategic growth priority for the group, BNP Paribas Assurance has strengthened its management team and established a new organization focused on its two core businesses: savings and personal protection.
Appointments
Jean-François Varlet has been appointed to the BNP Paribas Assurance Executive Committee, with responsibility for back offices and information systems upgrades to support development of business in the 28 countries where the group operates.
Jean-François Varlet, 54, is a graduate of the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales business school. He joined the BNP Paribas group in 1976, working initially in marketing and sales in New York and subsequently with the large corporates unit. After heading the group's Luxembourg subsidiary he was head of career management within the corporate human resources department. Prior to joining BNP Paribas Assurance, Jean-François Varlet was in charge of the bank's operations in the United Kingdom and Australia.
Charlotte Dennery, previously head of strategy and development for BNP Paribas in New York, has also been appointed to the BNP Paribas Assurance Executive Committee as head of Finance and Strategy. This newly created unit encompasses asset management, finance, strategy and development.
Charlotte Dennery, 39, is a graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique and the Ecole Nationale de la Statistique et des Etudes Economiques. After beginning her career at French statistics institute INSEE, she worked at the finance ministry. She joined the BNP Paribas group's strategy department in June 2001 before being assigned to the United States.
Michel Piano has been appointed Corporate Secretary.
Michel Piano, 51, is a graduate of the ESSEC business school. He joined the BNP Paribas group in 1981, holding positions in support functions in Hong Kong, Dublin and Lisbon. Since 1998 he has been in charge of human resources management for the Corporate and Investment Banking business in London.
Pier-Paolo Dipaola has been appointed global head of the Savings business.
Pier-Paolo Dipaola, 46, is a graduate of the University of Turin and the INSEAD business school. He joined the BNP Paribas group in 1988. He was director of operations in Italy and subsequently head of partnerships, based in France. He was directly involved in the creation of Cardif's joint ventures in India, Thailand and Russia.
Renaud Dumora has been appointed global head of the Personal Protection business. He retains his responsibilities as head of the Actuary department.
Renaud Dumora, 39, is a graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique, the Ecole Nationale de la Statistique et des Etudes Economiques, and the Institut des Actuaires Français. He joined the BNP Paribas group in 1991. After working as head of research and then as management controller at Compagnie Bancaire, he took charge of Cardif's creditor insurance business in 1994. He has been director of the actuary department since 2000.

World player in personal insurance, it designs personal or corporate products and services in savings, pension plans and protection, as well as P&C insurance contracts, which it sells through its many distribution networks.
