BNP Paribas is pleased to announce the appointment of Thierry Olive as Global Head of Equity Capital Markets. In this role, which takes effect from April 2004, he will be based in Paris and report to Thierry Varène, Global Head of Corporate Finance. Thierry Olive has been Deputy Head of Equity Capital Markets since 2001.
Thierry Olive replaces Simon Piney who has resigned to pursue interests outside investment banking and for a change of lifestyle. Simon joined BNP Paribas in 2001 as Global Head of ECM, having previously worked at Paribas from 1993 to 2000 as Head of Equity Syndicate.
Thierry Olive will continue to have a direct responsibility for French ECM, with Olivier Girard and Jean-Louis Auteroche acting as his deputies, while David Cottam will become Head of International ECM, with Tom Kennedy acting as his deputy. Country Heads (Michele Milani, Lars Stiewe, Inma Ramos, Philippe Miot and Paul Marriott) will report to David Cottam. Franck Cazaubieilh will become Head of Equity-Linked Capital Markets. Tom Kennedy will continue to act as Head of the Equity Syndicate desk in London and Bertrand Lussigny as Head of the Equity Syndicate desk in Paris.
Commenting on the changes, Thierry Varène, Global Head of Corporate Finance, said, "We regret Simon's decision to leave the Group and we wish him well in his new ventures. We thank him for his contribution to our Corporate Finance business and to our successful ECM group. Thierry Olive has many years of experience with the group and in the management of our primary equity business as Deputy Head of ECM. David brings significant international expertise to the team. It is our clear intention to further strengthen our ECM capabilities in order to increase our market share in Europe where our recently implemented Exane BNP Paribas joint venture will now provide us with an excellent equity distribution setup."
Thierry Olive, 36, joined the BNP Paribas Group in 1990, and was most recently Deputy Head of Equity Capital Markets and Global Head of Equity-Linked Capital Markets.
