Additional hires of two Emerging Market traders
BNP Paribas is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jose M. Barrionuevo as Global Head of Emerging Market research reporting to Brian Lazell, Global Head of Emerging Markets.
Jose has most recently been on an assignment for the Mexican Government where, since July 2000, he worked in the Economics Transition team. Previous to that he was a Director of Global Sovereign Markets Strategy at Lehman Brothers from 1997 to 2000. He was the Chief Latin American Economist at Chase Manhattan Securities from 1994 to 1997 and, before that, spent 3 years with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Jose obtained a Ph.D and an MA in Economics from the University of Chicago in 1991 and 1989 respectively. He also obtained a BA degree in Economics from the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores Monterrey.
Jose brings a wealth of expertise to BNP Paribas, having served in the IMF Article IV Consultations with the United States of America, Canada, Japan and Korea in 1993 and 1994. He led the IMF's mission for the OECD Working Policy Group in 1992. He built Lehman's first Sovereign strategy and Latin American Economics team as well as Chase's first Latin American Economics group between 1994 and 2000. Institutional Investor ranked his team at Chase first place from 1995 to 1997 and ranked his Sovereign strategy team at Lehman's fourth place in 2000.

In addition, BNP Paribas is pleased to announce the appointments of Nicholas Cox, based in London, and Pablo Melasecca, based in New York, to its Emerging Markets trading platform. Nicholas joins the firm from JP Morgan where he was Head of Currency Trading for the Moscow office and most recently secondee to Fxall, an FX e-commerce venture. Nicholas has been with JP Morgan since 1992. Nicholas graduated from the University of Exeter with first class honours BSc. in Solid State Physics.
Pablo Melasecca also joins the firm from JP Morgan where, since 1996, he was a trader in Emerging Markets External Debt responsible for the Andean Region (Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia) and Panama. Previous to that he was at Merrill Lynch in Debt Markets Group. Pablo obtained an MBA in Business Administration from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 1996.
