BNP Paribas announces several appointments

  • Sofia Merlo will succeed Yves Martrenchar, at the end of 2020, as Head of Group Human Resources and member of the Executive Committee of BNP Paribas
  • Vincent Lecomte is appointed CEO of BNP Paribas Wealth Management
  • Anne Pointet is appointed Deputy-CEO of BNP Paribas Wealth Management
  • Pierre Veyres is appointed Head of the South-East Region for French Retail Banking

Sofia Merlo, currently Co-CEO of BNP Paribas Wealth Management, will join the Group Human Resources function from May 2020 and will meet with the teams of the Group's various entities around the world before succeeding Yves Martrenchar as Head of Group Human Resources and member of the BNP Paribas Executive Committee at the end of 2020.

Vincent Lecomte, Co-CEO with Sofia Merlo of BNP Paribas Wealth Management, is appointed CEO of the business with effect from 4 May 2020. Vincent Lecomte is a member of the Executive Committee of International Financial Services and reports to Jacques d'Estais, Deputy Chief Operating Officer of BNP Paribas.

Anne Pointet, currently Head of the South-East Region for French Retail Banking, is appointed Deputy-CEO of BNP Paribas Wealth Management. She will take up her new position on 4 May 2020 and oversee Wealth Management activities for Domestic Markets and International Retail Banking. She will report hierarchically to Vincent Lecomte and will be a member of the Executive Committee of Domestic Markets, headed by Thierry Laborde, Deputy Chief Operating Officer of BNP Paribas, to whom she will report functionally.

Pierre Veyres, currently Head of CIB Global Banking Americas business in New York, is appointed Head of the South-East Region for French Retail Banking. He will succeed Anne Pointet on 30 March.

Sofia Merlo, graduate from HEC, started her career in the BNP Paribas Group in 1985 as an account manager in the large corporates division, and then moved into sales and cross-business roles. After serving different client segments in Paris and Bordeaux, she became a career manager within the Group’s Human Resources department and later Head of Career Management. She then joined the private banking business line, first as Head of BNP Paribas Private Bank France, and as Co-CEO of BNP Paribas Wealth Management. Within her professional activities, Sofia Merlo is engaged in promoting the women entrepreneurship in France and internationally. She launched in 2015 with Women Initiative Foundation, the BNP Paribas Women Entrepreneur Program at Stanford gathering women entrepreneurs all over the world.

Vincent Lecomte, graduate of ESCP Europe, held several positions in the consulting field before joining Paribas’ Securities Services business in France in 1992. He then moved to Germany, where he spent three years as Head of Securities Services. In 1998, he joined the Investment Partners business, where he was appointed COO (Chief Operating Office). In late 2005, he become Deputy Head of Personal Investors business line and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Cortal Consors. Vincent Lecomte joined BNP Paribas Wealth Management  in 2010, initially as COO (Chief Operating Officer) before being appointed  in December 2011 as Co-Head of the business, together with Sofia Merlo.

Anne Pointet is a graduate of Sciences-Po Paris and a student at the Ecole Nationale d'Administration. She began her career at the Ministry of Defense and then at the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry for the Middle East. In 2007, she joined BNP Paribas International Retail Banking in charge of Middle East Steering. She was then appointed Head of the French Overseas network. In 2012, she joined French Retail Banking as Director of the Business Centre in Marseille, then appointed Director of the Group of Agencies and the Private Banking Centre in Paris XVI. Since January 2016, she has been Head of the South-East Region for French Retail Banking.

Pierre Veyres, holds a Master's degree in Finance from Sorbonne and began his career at BNP Paribas in 1990 at French Retail Banking. He held sales positions there before joining the General Inspection in 1993, as an inspector and then head of mission. He then continued his international career, first as Chief Operating Officer of BNP Paribas Canada in 1997, then Head of Trade and Export Finance Americas from 2001 to 2006. He then became Global Head of CIB Trade Finance and Cash Management, based in Singapore. In 2013, he was appointed CEO of BNP Paribas South East Asia, then Deputy-CEO of CIB Americas in 2018. Pierre Veyres has been a Foreign Trade Advisor since 2013, and is also a member of the board of the French Institute in New York.
