Jean Lemierre will join the BNP Paribas Group on 1 September 2008 as Senior Advisor to the Chairman. In this capacity he will contribute to the development of the Group's international activities, particularly in emerging markets.
With a background in public finance and tax policy administration, he has just completed two terms as President of the EBRD, a multilateral financial institution, having previously been Head of the Internal Revenue Service then Head of Treasury at the French Ministry of the Economy and Finance.
Michel Pébereau, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BNP Paribas, commented: “In addition to his eminent personal qualities, Jean Lemierre will bring BNP Paribas his international vision and the value of his diverse career at the very highest levels of responsibility. I am delighted that he is joining our Group.”
At the beginning of 2009, Jean Lemierre will specifically take over the missions currently provided to the Group by Jacques de Larosière, who has decided to leave. However, he has agreed, at the request of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, to continue to give the Group the benefit of his advice and consultancy, on an independent and unremunerated basis. Michel Pébereau declared: “Jacques de Larosière has given BNP Paribas his incomparable experience, the fruit of his exceptional career both in our country and the international financial community, as well as his immense human qualities; on behalf of our entire Group, I would like to express our very sincere gratitude.”
