Science fiction or tomorrow’s opportunities? L’Atelier brings technological foresight in-house

Published On 12.10.2020

What will be the primary concerns of society and of our customers within the next decade? What major impacts could emerging technologies have on the market? And how will events today change the world tomorrow? As a part of the Group dedicated to foresight and insight, these are only some of the big questions that L’Atelier BNP Paribas explores.

Forecasting through analysis and research: L’Atelier’s mission

L’Atelier BNP Paribas' work involves looking for changes, both big and seemingly insignificant, throughout media, academic research, and investment flows. The team interprets these findings to forecast future market opportunities, disruptions and socio-cultural changes that the Group and its clients can use to make informed strategic and investment decisions.

From research to storytelling to finding new opportunities

The team at L’Atelier BNP Paribas uses data analysis, research, expert analysis, interviews, design fiction and visual storytelling to craft the narrative of these forecasts, resulting in projects like the Virtual Economy. This research brings together a wide range of information collected from social media, technology patents, and even online video games to examine the current rise of virtual marketplaces. Through these insights, L’Atelier is currently developing new ways that the Group can enter this emerging market.

"For more than four decades, L'Atelier has explored the emergence of new markets at the intersection of technology and societal change. Our mission is to use data and analysis to identify the next major technological advancement, including the opportunities and challenges it is likely to create."
