BNP Paribas’ Global Markets business offers a broad range of products and services in the global interest rates, credit, currency, equities & commodity markets. Global Markets help their franchise of clients find effective ways to raise and invest capital as well as manage their exposure to risk. Their client base comprises of hundreds of corporations, institutional investors, banks, governments and supranational organizations.

Global Markets has the scale and reach to conduct business anywhere in the world and deliver products denominated in almost all of the world’s currencies. Their global network comprises more than 3,000 professionals working on our six main trading floors in London, Hong Kong, New York, Paris, Singapore and Tokyo. They are supported by regional offices throughout Europe, the Americas, Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

Job Purpose 

The role is designed to support the Graduate in developing skills and experience in Global Markets Lab activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Intermediate/ developing professional accountable for the delivery of often complex but routine activities within the Data and AI Lab research team within Global Markets at BNP Paribas.
  • Develops and adapts existing AI/Machine learning methodologies, such as: 
    • Features engineering
    • Model calibration/fine-tuning
    • Loss engineering

In order to improve the performance of relevant models or adapt them to a new type of inputs.

  • Works under own initiative and is beginning to support other more junior staff within the team with tasks.
  • Maintains open communication with the team and direct line management to fulfil firm notification requirements and pass on client concerns.

Requirements

  • Professional qualification and education in Machine Learning, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering or Finance / Econometrics at a Master's level or a PhD in another science or engineering field, with an interest in data science is required with some additional work experience where relevant. 
  • Knowledge of quantitative finance and options (knowledge of stochastic calculus and structured/exotic derivatives is advantageous but not required).
  • Displays dedication & prioritises problems by considering the impact on the business; identifies quick-wins.
  • Excellent business relationship management and development skills.
  • Effective communicator who can deliver complex and clear information or messages, both oral and written.
  • Experience in using financial information systems - e.g. Bloomberg and in-house risk/pricing tools.
  • Strong programming skills especially in Python but an additional programming language is a plus (e.g. SQL, C++, Java, R or other equivalent).
