RISK HUB

RISK is an integrated and independent control function of the BNP Paribas Group. It is the second line of defense on the risk management activities of the Group which are under its direct responsibilities, including credit and counterparty risk, market risk, funding and liquidity risk, interest rate and foreign exchange risks in the banking book, insurance risk, operational risk, and environmental and social risks.
 
RISK aims at being a partner of the businesses by contributing to their sustainable development, but also a gatekeeper to ensure risks taken remain compatible with the Group’s Risk Appetite and its strategy. 
 
RISK Iberian Hub Madrid is a transversal platform servicing the RISK Function by covering added-value activities around credit risk, market risk, operational risk and data protection. Offering a wide range of services to RISK teams, from consulting to cyber security going through data analysis, modelling or artificial intelligence.
 
 

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

RISK ESG steers the integration of ESG risk drivers into BNP Paribas’ risk management framework across risk types and geographies. We are an international team (~30 experts) sitting in Paris, London and Madrid. 

This role reports to the Head of RISK ESG and sits on the RISK ESG Management Committee. 

This role offers a unique position at the heart of the Group’s ESG risk agenda, combining leadership, strategy, regulatory dialogue and transversal exposure.

It is ideally suited for a senior profile eager to shape the future of ESG risk management while building and leading a strong international team from Madrid.

YOUR MISSION IS TWOFOLD

  • Lead the RISK ESG Madrid Hub: set the tone, build capabilities, and deliver with excellence in a multi‑manager / multi‑location setup.
  • Drive and contribute to high‑impact strategic work: deliver cross‑risk analyses and forward‑looking insights, to inform Top Management and shape the ESG risk agenda, in close coordination with the RISK ESG Team heads.
 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Lead & grow the Madrid hub
  • Onboard coach and develop the Madrid team; ensure high‑quality delivery in close coordination with RISK ESG managers based in Paris and London. 
  • Optimize topic coverage and staffing dynamically when priorities shift in close coordination with RISK ESG managers based in Paris and London. 
  • Run catch ups with Madrid team members and represent the Madrid team in the RISK ESG ManCo. 

Shape transversal & strategic delivery

Given the fast‑evolving ESG agenda and supervisory priorities, the exact scope of may evolve over time. Responsibilities below are representative examples of transversal and strategic delivery expected in the role.

  • Contribute to Board related presentations content and coordination across relevant teams/streams within RISK and the Group. 
  • Produce sharp strategic notes on emerging themes, performance signals and strategic risks hand‑in‑hand with RISK teams, for the Head of RISK ESG and Group CRO. 
  • Support RISK ESG Teams on ongoing and future topics (BAU or projects) when needed, e.g. ESG-A questionnaires & portfolio analysis (Credit Risk), deep dives & operational frameworks (Operational Risk), and nature risk embedding into the risk management framework. 
  • Contribute to the Supervisory On-Site Inspection recommendations, coordination, and closure. 
 

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 15+ years of experience in Risk Management, Audit, IG, or equivalent. ESG experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate demanding contexts and drive transversal workstreams, combined with a genuine interest in people management, team development and resource planning. 
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex topics clearly for senior management and define clear priorities.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and stakeholder-management capabilities.
  • Fluency in English and French; Spanish is a plus.
