Make Our Data Transparent – Join Us as a Data Reporting Analyst for Reverse Engineering & Documentation

Do you enjoy digging into SQL, working out how data really works and explaining it clearly? In this role you will take existing data environments, understand how they are built and document them, so that everyone can understand and trust our data. You will be part of the O2 project, collaborating on the creation of a single data source for all Arval entities. You will work with both Business teams and Corporate Business Transformation/Data teams in an international environment. Be part of a dynamic team where your skills will make a significant impact on our business decisions and success!

Brief description of our company - ARVAL COMPETENCE CENTER

We belong to the multinational bank group BNP Paribas and in Slovakia we operate as an organizational unit of Arval Slovakia since 2015. Our main task is to provide support to Arval BNP Paribas group entities. Arval BNP Paribas is a provider of operating leasing in 30 countries worldwide. The support we provide is associated with technical and financial support as well as with expertise, consulting, and outsourcing services. Moreover, we are present in all fields that are linked to operating leasing such as customer contact center, controlling, warranty, insured accidents, or back office. One unit of the company is composed of Department of Operations – call center, communication with drivers and technical department. The other one covers financial field such as complex accounting advisory.

We are looking for a new team member to join our team and contribute to the O2 project. The ideal candidate has previous experience in Data Analysis, Analytics Engineering or Data Engineering, with significant hands-on SQL experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reading, understanding and analysing complex SQL queries.
  • Reverse-engineering existing data environments: working out how the data is transformed, joined, filtered and calculated, and how the different parts depend on each other.
  • Preparing technical data documentation: datasets, tables, fields, transformation rules, lineage (where data comes from and how it flows) and dependencies.
  • Clearly separating business definitions and business rules (what the data means) from transformation logic and technical implementation (how it is built).
  • Investigating data and validating assumptions based on existing code and data structures.
  • Talking to Business teams to clarify data definitions, business rules, usages and exceptions that cannot be derived from the technical implementation alone.
  • Working directly with Corporate, Business, Business Transformation/Data teams, including internal clients, developers, architects and data engineers.
  • Helping to improve and industrialise the methodologies and processes provided by the Corporate team, ideally using Python/scripting/automation.

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Strong SQL skills, and you can read, understand and analyse complex SQL queries.
  • Experience in technical data documentation (datasets, tables, fields, transformation rules, lineage and dependencies).
  • A good understanding of Data Warehouse/Datamart/Data Platform concepts and data modelling principles.
  • Ideally, some Python/scripting/automation knowledge.
  • Good communication skills and a good level of English, for working in an international environment.
  • An autonomous and curious approach, and you are comfortable working in complex or partially documented environments.

Please note that this role is not limited to technical documentation. Whenever a data definition, business rule or data usage cannot be found in the existing technical implementation, you will clarify it with colleagues from the Business teams, so you should be comfortable doing that.

If you are passionate about data, documentation and automation, and enjoy working closely with both Business teams and Corporate Business Transformation/Data teams, we would be happy to welcome you to our team.
