About BNP Paribas Corporate and Institutional Banking in Mexico

 BNP Paribas Corporate and Institutional Banking has had a representation office in Mexico since 1966. Since then BNP Paribas has played an important role in financing Mexico’s development into the 21st century. BNP Paribas was one of the founders of Banco Nacional de Mexico (Banamex), one of Mexico’s largest banks, at the end of the 19th century, and stayed as a minority shareholder until the nationalization of the banking system in 1982. BNP was first established in Mexico more than half a century ago also acting as an important shareholder in Banco del Atlántico until 1982 BNP Paribas Mexico is expanding and has started operating in 2021 a full-fledged Mexican bank to better serve its clients through local operations performing local and global markets activities. Operations out of BNP Paribas Mexico include in particular trading and market making activities on interest rate derivatives, forex (spot and forward), bonds, repos and reverse repos on MBonos, UDI and Bonos. The coverage activities focusing on Mexican corporate and institutional clients will remain and expand.

CIB Latin America is organized into two territories: Hispanic Latin America (LatAm), and Brazil. Activities include business lines within Global Markets (e.g., Equities, Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities, etc.), Advisory, Financing Solutions, and Corporate Banking. Functions are in place as well including but not limited to Information Technology & Operations (ITO), Finance, Risk, Compliance and Human Resources. BNPP Compliance serves as an independent second line of defense function to ensure adherence to all applicable laws, rules and regulations in each country where we operate. In Mexico, BNP Paribas CIB conducts its activities through BNP Paribas Mexico, S.A. Institución de Banca Múltiple and the Mexico Rep Office.

Job Description: 

The Compliance AVP will support the Mexico Head of Compliance to ensure the activities of the various CIB businesses and functions in Mexico are organized and carried out according to the requirements of all applicable regulations, professional and ethical standards, as well as the guidelines and procedures of BNP Paribas Group and Americas Compliance. The CIB Mexico Head of Compliance is a risk management professional who can contribute to the effective leadership of all Compliance risk controls and processes in the relevant subject matter areas, including:

  • Financial Security, which includes Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing, Sanctions, and Anti-Bribery & Corruption
  • Policies and Procedures 
  • Compliance Training 
  • Conflicts of Interest 
  • Risk and Controls Assessment, Monitoring and Testing 
  • Employee Conduct, Personal Account Dealing and other personal financial activities
  • Regulatory Change Management 
  • Governance, Regulatory Inquiries and Exam Management 
  • Compliance Reporting and Analytics

Mexico Governance Committees:

  • Board of Directors  Audit Committee 
  •  Risk Committee 
  • Mexico OpCo 
  •  FS OpCo 

Any Local or Regional Compliance Committee when required by the Mexico Head of Compliance

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the Mexico Head of Compliance, the Compliance AVP Regulatory Affairs is responsible for :
  • Assist the Mexico Compliance team for the preparation of the internal requests and regulatory demands and to participate in control activities related to Compliance and Financial Security Topics.
  • Collection and preparation of the information required to produce Compliance KPIs required by Group or by the regulator.
  • To assist in the execution and report of the controls related to Compliance and Financial Security policies.
  • To support the team in the preparation and updates of the local compliance policies.
  • To support the team in follow up process related to ensure the completeness of the Compliance trainings.
  • To support the team in the execution of the controls related to PAD, OBAS and Conflict of interest requirements.
  • To assist the team in the follow up process related to the attendance and creation of action plans and incidents.
  • To assist in the preparation of the local Compliance Committees.
  • Comply with all applicable regulations (local or those defined by Group) and BNPP internal policies as well as Code of Conduct. This includes but is not limited to Financial Security, Know Your Customer, Due Diligence, Client Interest Protection, Market Integrity, Professional Ethics and Respect for colleagues.
  • Follow up with the stakeholders of action plans agreed with the regulators, ensuring its timely completion, and reporting to the authorities and to the corporate governance committees.
  • Preparation of SLAs files to be presented to the local regulator and subsequent follow up with stakeholders.
  • Coordinate on site /remote regulatory inspections.
  • Ensure the proper registration of AML documents prepared by Compliance in SRMS system.
  • Tracking of all regulatory inquires received and prepare the status report to External Auditors.
  • Ensure the timely delivery and tracking of Prudential regulatory reports to CNBV, IPAB and Banxico as per defined in the Compliance calendar with the proper coordination of stakeholders involved in the process.
  • Assist the Compliance team in the implementation of regulatory changes applicable to Compliance.
