The position at a glance

RISK is a fully independent function whose mission is to advise the bank’s top management on risk appetite, to provide fast and reliable information about the risk profile, to offer high quality risk management expertise to the group’s stakeholders as well as to foster risk anticipation

RISK Markets & Financial Institutions ("RISK MFI") is responsible for the monitoring of market, liquidity and counterparty risks of the BNP Paribas Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) perimeter. RISK MFI helps the Group senior management, the RISK Function and Global Markets to make the best choices by anticipating on events and finding the right balance between profitability and long-term protection of the Bank. RISK MFI is organized into 2 streams (Analysis & Decisions and Platform), present in 14 locations across Europe, Asia Pacific (APAC) and Americas.

RISK MFI is also involved in the governance of the MCL (Market, Counterparty, Liquidity) Cluster and contributes to its common objectives and vision. The MCL cluster is a grouping of five RISK departments, representing the End-to-End value chain for Change The Bank (CTB) and Run The Bank (RTB) activities in an Agile organization. The teams from these departments are grouped into Tribes or Centres of Expertise (CoE) and organized: a) into squads within a Tribe to contribute to the teams' deliverables, and b) into chapters bringing together communities of skills.

In detail

As part of the RISK MFI Platform Americas team, the candidate will have the following responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership in Monitoring Market Risk:

  • Demonstrate strategic vision in migrating the monitoring framework to industrialized solutions, with a focus on improving the quality of market risk data.
  • Implement clear communication strategies using agreed templates for reporting results, daily monitoring, and excesses to RISK MFI and Global Markets (GM).
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous learning amongst the team and broader squad.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Oversee the monitoring and reporting of market risk metrics across Global Markets GBLs activities (Americas, Global), including managing day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure compliance and analysis for Basel 2.5 metrics (VaR, SVaR, IRC), market risk limits, and new metrics as added (e.g., FMRC stress tests).
  • Coordinate and respond to ad-hoc requests for Market Risk analysis, whether external (e.g. from Regulators) or key RISK Management forums (MainPos, FMRC…)

Analysis, Review, and Escalation:

  • Provide in-depth metric variation analysis on a regular or ad-hoc basis, supporting business processes such as temporary/permanent limit requests and approvals.
  • Play a key role in the periodic reviews and calibration processes of limits, contributing to the development of VaR/SVaR monitoring and back-testing event investigations.

Framework Enhancement and Digital Transformation:

  • Propose and implement enhancements to the Market Risk Metrics framework, driving efficiency and consistency (e.g. VaR Explain tool).
  • Collaborate closely with RISK MFI Digital to transform production processes, including improving monitoring tools and developing dynamic dashboards and tools.

Data Quality and Governance:

  • Maintain oversight of Market Risk data availability and quality, including managing the daily VaR signoff process and coordinating aggregation and sign-off at GBL Level.
  • Promote and utilize data governance tools to monitor and report on data quality.
  • Provide both quantitative and qualitative support to forums like the Market Risk Opco and Data Monitoring Committee (DMC), and local equivalents, addressing data quality and integrity issues.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Product Ownership:

  • Embody the role of a Product Owner (PO) for Market Analysis and Reporting in the Americas region, ensuring alignment with "One firm", "Clients first", "Results-driven", and "Excellence" values.
  • Prioritize the book of work amongst squad members.
  • Work collaboratively with business stakeholders and the RISK Systems team to prioritize enhancements and develop a roadmap that aligns with the Tribe vision.
