Job Title: Technical Architect - ETL

Department: CEFS IT – Anti Money Laundering (AML)

About Business line/Function: 

The AML IT function sits within the BNP Paribas Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) CEFS‑technology ecosystem and provides end‑to‑end technology platform that enables the bank’s anti‑money‑laundering (AML) program. Its core purpose is to translate regulatory and compliance requirements into robust, scalable, and secure IT solutions that detect, investigate, and report suspicious activity across the Group’s global operations.

The AML IT business line is the technology backbone that transforms raw transaction data into actionable AML intelligence, ensuring that BNP Paribas CIB meets its regulatory obligations while maintaining operational resilience and innovation.

Position Purpose:

The AML Technical Architect would be responsible to drive the design, implementation, and evolution of the bank’s data‑engineered ecosystem that underpins Anti‑Money‑Laundering (AML) and Financial‑Crime detection. Through end‑to‑end ETL pipelines, Python‑based analytics, and a scalable data architecture, the role ensures that high‑volume transactional and customer data are ingested, transformed, and made instantly available for monitoring, risk scoring, sanctions screening, and regulatory reporting—all while meeting stringent performance, security, and compliance standards. The Architect acts as the technical bridge between AML business experts, data‑engineering teams, and software developers, guaranteeing that solutions are robust, future‑proof, and aligned with the bank’s risk‑management strategy and regulatory obligations.

While direct AML experience is not mandatory, strong architectural expertise and the ability to quickly master AML concepts are essential. The role will operate within a globally distributed environment.

Responsibilities

Direct Responsibilities

  • Define, build, tune, and maintain batch and near‑real‑time ETL pipelines using Pyspark, Spark, Databricks, Airflow, S3 Bucket etc.
  • Connect external risk feeds (sanctions lists, adverse media, PEP data) through APIs/streaming e.g. Kafka; automate builds, tests, and deployments via CI/CD pipelines.
  • Lead development and optimization of Python-based ETL frameworks and data processing logic.
  • Ensure data quality, reconciliation, lineage, and auditability across AML data flows.
  • Optimize performance for large-scale datasets and high-throughput environments.
  • Embed encryption, RBAC, audit trails, and data‑privacy controls into all pipelines; ensure adherence to AML regulations (FATF, BSA/FinCEN, EU Directives, etc.).
  • Provide technical leadership, conduct design reviews, and mentor senior engineers.
  • Collaborate with AML compliance teams, data scientists, QA, and operations for end-to-end delivery.
  • Support production stability, incident analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies (graph databases, ML‑Ops, serverless) and recommend enhancements to the AML data platform.
  • Document architectural decisions, data‑flow diagrams to keep the AML platform aligned with the target‑state design.

Technical & Behavioral Competencies

  • Strong expertise in Python, POLARS for ETL and data engineering.
  • Advanced SQL and relational database design and performance tuning.
  • Proven experience in ETL architecture, data modeling, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of relational (PostgreSQL / Oracle) and NoSQL (MongoDB/ Cassandra)
  • Knowledge of workflow orchestration and scheduling tools.
  • Understanding of regulatory expectations, audit readiness, and data governance.
  • Ability & willingness to learn & work on diverse technologies (languages, frameworks, and tools)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under tight regulatory and delivery timelines

Nice to have Skills: 

  • Experience working with AML platforms or vendor solutions (e.g., Actimize, Oracle FCCM, SAS AML, Fircosoft, Mantas).
  • Experience with Big Data technologies (Spark, Hadoop, Hive).
  • Knowledge of real-time streaming technologies (Kafka, Spark Streaming).
  • Experience integrating ML models or analytics into AML workflows.Familiarity with Kafka, Pulsar, Spark, or Flink for real‑time data pipelines.

12+ years of work experience

Education Level: Bachelors degree or equivalent
