Financial Planning and Analysis Analyst (FP&A)

The position at a glance

Within Finance, SFM Canada team (SFM: Strategic Financial Management) is primarily responsible for the proper organization of the Financial Planning, the internal Management Reporting and the communication of financial information to Business Lines and Functions.  

The role primarily focuses on Management Reporting activities and financial analytics to support the senior management and Business Managers of BNP Paribas Business Lines and Functions. 
 
 Main activities cover:
 - Performance Management reporting.
 - Forecasting, Budgeting and Financial Planning.
 - Business Partnering.
 - Preparation of ad-hoc analysis on revenues, direct costs, allocated costs, resources and other indicators.
 - Active contribution to projects involving Performance Management.

In detail

The team members are responsible of the following activities:

  • Produce and analyze key financial reporting with a focus on meaningful analytics that the Business can rely on for strategic decisions. This includes profitability and cost variance analysis vs. targets and requires an in-depth knowledge of BNPP management accounting.
  • Provide commentary on P&L evolution to Finance Management and Finance support teams who use it to understand key business drivers when analyzing financial statements and regulatory reporting. This requires good business knowledge in order to explain the revenue drivers of the business products and special attention to scope and accuracy of figures.
  • Coordinate development of budgets and forecasts with internal clients, including revenues, expenses, allocation keys, headcount, and RWA. This includes consolidating business unit submissions, analyzing figures and trends, resolving differences, and preparing Senior Management presentations.
  • Maintain an active dialogue with the business, central Performance Management teams, and local
  • Synthesis Reporting on instructions, methodologies and analysis of actuals and budget.
  • Prepare ad hoc analytical reports and other presentations in response to inquiries from Business Management, Finance Management, Finance Production, Head Office Performance Management and other key stakeholders, providing timely and accurate information to aid Finance and Business senior management in decision-making.
  • Apply knowledge of tolls and business to proactively seek ways to improve processes, control procedures, and workflow organization to increase the team’s efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Work closely with the Data Solutions team in supporting projects with a Finance component impacting the SFM Platform.
  • Ensure on-time quality delivery of projects and activities assigned.
  • Ensure backup coverage with other team members.

The role also involves a continuous improvement strategy to:

  • Ensure that data is collected, organized, enriched and reported in a secure way with a full audit trail. 
  • Ensure that reports are prepared in full adherence with management accounting principles and data reconciled with Finance systems.

Work conditions: This position provides for standard working conditions in an office and a normal work schedule from Monday to Friday. 

The strengths and skills that will help you succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance. 
  • Minimum 4 years of Financial Reporting or Performance Management, preferably within Financial Services Industries.
  • English is required. * 
  • Ability to develop and adapt a process: Ability to manage multiple projects and effectively prioritize workload when dealing with multiple deadlines.
  • Digital tools: Excellent IT skills, including experience with data processing tools such Alteryx or SQL, and creating reports using Business Intelligence tools (SQL, Tableau or Power BI) as well as Excel skills including pivot tables, power query, advanced Excel functions and macros. Knowledge in SharePoint (Lists) and/or in processes to collect information (mostly via Forms in tools to be defined).
  •  Ability to deliver/Result driven: Self-starter and team player, able to work independently and collaboratively with various teams in a deadline-focused environment. 
  • Analytical Ability: Effective analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to develop and leverage networks to increase knowledge on the organization and the related processes.
  • Accounting: Knowledge of USGAAP and IFRS is a plus. 
  • Given the vast majority of our clients, both internal and external, are based outside of Quebec and Canada, specific language requirements may apply. Professional working proficiency in English language is required.*
