The position at a glance 

This role supports the BNP Paribas mission by ensuring the integrity and robustness of the institution's risk management framework. The main objective is to perform rigorous quantitative reviews of credit risk models to maintain regulatory compliance and operational stability. By providing effective challenge to modeling processes, the position safeguards the bank against model risk.

In detail

  • Conduct reasoned quantitative reviews of Credit Risk Models, including IFRS9 and Stress Testing, to ensure alignment with internal standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Support the definition of global modelling convergence across entities to achieve full compliance with European Banking Regulations such as Basel IV.
  • Review various models affecting the credit risk decision-making process, including ESG-related models, to maintain a comprehensive risk oversight.
  • Provide a collaborative challenge regarding conceptual soundness and model output reasonableness to ensure all modeling aspects remain fit-for-use.
  • Develop appropriate validation plans in partnership with validation managers to provide effective challenge commensurate with model risk levels.
  • Produce detailed documentation of the effective challenge process to support committees in their review and decision-making procedures.
  • Assess ongoing model performance through regular monitoring to ensure continued accuracy and reliability.
  • Defend technical conclusions to management through clear communication to facilitate informed institutional decisions.

The strengths and skills that will help you succeed

  • Graduate degree in a quantitative field (e.g. Finance, Economics, Statistics).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience validating or developing Credit risk models.
  • The knowledge of English is required.*
  • Statistical expertise applied through time series analysis, inference, and probability to ensure model accuracy.
  • Programming proficiency in SAS, R, or Python to execute complex quantitative tasks.
  • Technical writing skills used to produce high-quality documentation for regulatory and internal review.
  • Communication and synthesis capabilities used to convey complex findings to diverse stakeholders.
  • Regulatory knowledge of Basel and IFRS9 applied to ensure alignment with industry standards.
  • Machine learning or AI technique application to enhance modern modeling approaches.
  • Regulatory interaction experience used when participating in on-site inspection missions.

*Given the vast majority of our clients, both internal and external, are based outside of Quebec and Canada, specific language requirements may apply. Professional working proficiency in the English language is required.
