About BNP Paribas Corporate and Institutional Banking in Mexico
BNP Paribas Corporate and Institutional Banking has maintained a representative office in Mexico since 1966. Over the years, BNP Paribas has significantly contributed to financing Mexico's progression into the 21st century. Notably, BNP Paribas was one of the founding members of Banco Nacional de Mexico (Banamex), one of the largest banks in Mexico, and held a minority share until the nationalization of the banking system in 1982. Additionally, BNP Paribas had established its presence in Mexico over fifty years ago, serving as a key shareholder in Banco del Atlántico until 1982.

Job Summary:
BNP Paribas' Global Markets offers client service, investment solutions, hedging, financing, research, and market intelligence across assets and regions. FICC, a business line of Global Markets, stands for Fixed Income, Currency, and Commodities. The Associate, Mexico Economist is responsible for delivering high-quality macroeconomic research and projections on Mexico, supporting internal and client-facing stakeholders with insightful, data-driven analysis. The role involves maintaining regular dialogue with policymakers, contributing to internal risk assessments, and translating economic developments into actionable market views. This position requires strong modelling and communication skills and plays a key role in connecting research with business impact across sales, trading, and strategy teams. This role is temporary for up to 12 months and will replace Mexico Chief Economist during her maternity leave.
Responsibilities:
- Replace BNP Paribas Mexico Chief Economist during her maternity leave.
- Contribute to production of rigorous, timely, and well-argued macroeconomic research on Mexico, with clear implications for markets and policy.
- Develop and maintain robust forecasting tools and econometric models to support short- and medium-term macro projections.
- Contribute to regional and global research publications, scenario-building exercises, and investment outlooks.
- Support BNP Paribas business lines with economic inputs tailored to their strategic and operational needs.
- Actively participate in internal risk committees and forums, contributing macroeconomic insight for strategic decision-making.
- Deliver research views to clients through written publications, conference calls, and in-person presentations, adapting content to each audience.
- Coordinate closely with sales and trading teams to align economic views with commercial opportunities and improve client engagement.
- Ensure full adherence to internal policies and external regulations, including KYC, market conduct, and professional ethics.
Competences and Experience
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in economics or related field required, master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in macroeconomic research, preferably in a sell-side, multilateral, or institutional environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in Mexico’s macroeconomic dynamics, policy landscape, and key structural challenges.
- Advanced econometric and data-handling skills, with proficiency in R, Python, Stata, or EViews.
- Strategic thinking and the ability to take bold, differentiated views supported by data and reasoning.
- Good communication skills in both English and Spanish, with a proven ability to produce clear, concise, and impactful research products.
- Confidence and empathy in client interactions; ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences.
- Team player with a collaborative mindset and a willingness to contribute beyond core responsibilities when needed.
