Business area

BNP Paribas’ Global Markets business offers a broad range of products and services in the global interest rates, credit, currency, equities & commodity markets. Global Markets help their franchise of clients find effective ways to raise and invest capital as well as manage their exposure to risk. Their client base comprises of corporations, institutional investors, banks, governments and supranational organizations. Global Markets has the scale and reach to conduct business anywhere in the world and deliver products denominated in almost all of the world’s currencies.

The Marketing, Communications and Client Access department (MC2) focuses on developing and promoting the Global Markets brand and franchise both internally and externally through targeting marketing, communication, events and roadshows.

Job purpose

The Communications Officer works as part of the Communications team responsible for building and executing comms campaigns that support the strategy of the business globally and strengthen its positioning to staff, clients and the markets. In a business where everyday changes, the daily tasks of the team range from writing speeches, articles and internal announcements to producing videos or pitching for industry awards. 

The Communications Officer supports the communications strategy of certain business lines, transversal teams and projects across Global Markets. The role involves close coordination with colleagues from other comms and marketing teams globally and in departments spanning the entire BNP Paribas Group.

The Communications Officer works closely with top levels of management, acting as a strategic adviser and consulting on how to create and implement the most effective communications strategies to achieve identified business goals.

They Communications Officer works under own initiatives, beginning to support other most junior staff in the team with tasks.

Key responsibilities

Develops and delivers communications strategies within Global Markets, takes accountability for tasks within their area of personal expertise. This will include initiating, managing and completing, with increasing autonomy but at all times appropriate supervision, tasks such as:

Supervision and control of communications:

  • Proactively liaising with stakeholders and staff to identify business needs and inform strategy.
  • Ensuring Global Markets’ staff, clients and the public are kept well-informed of relevant business strategy, news, achievements, awards, deals etc.
  • Developing a working knowledge of, and building messaging for different business lines, asset classes and strategic projects.
  • Developing and executing multi-channel communications and marketing campaigns in line with business needs
  • Developing content and thought leadership on financial products, strategy, and business news to feed internal and external channels.
  • Implementing new tools and techniques to continue pushing the boundary of communications.
  • Working with partner teams, including design teams, other comms teams and external partners, to implement comms strategies.
  • Maintaining a strong network with business and industry partners, including senior stakeholders across Global Markets, our counterparts worldwide, other departments of the bank and external partners.
  • Coordinating on external communications strategies in collaboration with press relations, CIB and Group communications teams worldwide

Departmental Support:

  • Assist senior team members as required.

Other Contributions: 

  • Systematic in gaining intelligence on gaps in staff knowledge 
  • Openly share tools and procedures with other BNP Paribas professionals
  • Promote the profile of the team within the business line and across BNP Paribas as a whole. 

Act as a point of contact for department discussions with typical control and support functions within the Bank for their relevant business area and liaises with other internal teams to facilitate resolution of issues or escalate matters to more senior business management colleagues / senior management.

Partners with other teams and seeks supervision and guidance from senior colleagues where appropriate.

Collaborates effectively with relevant internal teams where required including the Compliance function in relation to all compliance and regulatory matters and audit teams in relation to the Bank’s audit processes. Strengthens and continues to develop strong internal relationships to support such collaboration.

Requirements

  • Effective strategic communications planning and day-to-day internal communications skills
  • Professional qualifications and experience in previous communications roles.
  • Good knowledge of brand and/or communications principles and processes. Must be able to translate knowledge and experience to improve practice.
  • Excellent organisation skills with the ability to multitask and provide high quality service to agreed budgets and timelines.
  • Excellent written and oral English skills to articulate technical issues as well as being able to take complex cases and communicate with individuals across the business.
  • Good Computer literacy and understanding of relevant software.
  • Have a good understanding of company policies, procedures, regulations and legislations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
