About the job

Provide accurate, timely and value‑added support for the CRF/TRS desk by managing trade booking, life‑cycle events, client‑facing inquiries and periodic processes, while continuously improving tools and procedures.

Your Main Activities Are

  • Trade & Booking Operations – Manually book client bond, loan and TRS trades on the trade date, handle trade life‑cycle events (cashless rolls, corporate actions, tranche splits, amendments, cancellations), and ensure correct posting of monthly resets, pay‑downs and fee accruals
  • Client & Front‑Office Support – Act as the primary point of contact for front‑office queries relating to cash‑flow reconciliation, position reporting, settlement issues, SWIFT and lender‑notice enquiries. Produce and distribute daily/weekly operational reports to traders and sales
  • Middle‑/Back‑Office Coordination – Liaise with loan middle‑ and back‑office teams to resolve settlement mismatches, payment breaks and data‑quality issues. Represent the desk on regular cross‑functional calls (weekly settlement reviews, month‑end close)
  • Process & Control – Document standard operating procedures, ensure role responsibilities are clearly understood, and follow the Bank’s permanent control framework. Escalate incidents promptly and support internal audit activities
  • Tool Development & Continuous Improvement – Identify automation opportunities and develop tools (e.g., VBA, Python macros) to streamline repetitive tasks. Propose and implement process enhancements that increase efficiency and data integrity
  • Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing – Work closely with the on‑shore (London) team and other global offices to maintain consistency of practice. Assist junior team members and contribute to ad‑hoc projects as required
  • Compliance & Training – Complete all mandatory compliance trainings on schedule and apply the knowledge daily. Stay up‑to‑date with regulatory and internal policy changes affecting the business

Profile and Skills to Success

  • Academic background – Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics or a related discipline
  • Interest in Financial Markets – Genuine enthusiasm for financial markets, with a focus on credit products, repos and total‑return swaps
  • Analytical mindset – Strong reasoning ability, natural curiosity and a proactive approach to problem‑solving
  • Communication – Fluency in English and the capacity to explain operational issues clearly to traders, sales, clients and internal partners
  • Attention to detail – Proven track record of accurate data handling, documentation and reconciliation
  • Ethics & integrity – High professional standards and strict adherence to the Bank’s compliance and control framework
  • Resilience & autonomy – Comfortable working under pressure, meeting tight deadlines and managing multiple priorities independently.
  • Self‑starter attitude – Entrepreneurial spirit, comfortable taking ownership of tasks and eager to learn new skills
  • Coding competence (highly valued) – Ability to use VBA, Python (or similar) to automate routine processes, build simple tools and improve data quality. While not mandatory, demonstrated coding experience is a strong differentiator

About the Team 

The Trading Assistant team is the operational backbone of the Credit Repo Financing (CRF) and Total Return Swap (TRS) business. Based in Lisbon (working on US‑hour shifts), we work hand‑in‑hand with traders, sales, loan middle‑ management to ensure a seamless “pre‑trade → post‑trade” experience for our clients. The role offers high visibility across the Global Markets division and frequent interaction with front‑office (FO), middle‑office (MO) and back‑office (BO) stakeholders.

Work‑hour model: The position is based in Lisbon while following U.S. business hours to align with the desk’s requirements. Typical shift patterns are 11:00 – 20:00 or 13:00 – 22:00 (local Lisbon time) depending on desk necessity.
