About BNP Paribas Corporate and Institutional Banking in Mexico

BNP Paribas Corporate and Institutional Banking has had a representation office in Mexico since 1966. Since then BNP Paribas has played an important role in financing Mexico’s development into the 21st century. BNP Paribas was one of the founders of Banco Nacional de Mexico (Banamex), one of Mexico’s largest banks, at the end of the 19th century, and stayed as a minority shareholder until the nationalization of the banking system in 1982. BNP was first established in Mexico more than half a century ago also acting as an important shareholder in Banco del Atlántico until 1982

BNP Paribas Mexico is expanding and has started operating in 2021 a full-fledged Mexican bank to better serve its clients through local operations performing local and global markets activities. Operations out of BNP Paribas Mexico include in particular trading and market making activities on interest rate derivatives, forex (spot and forward), bonds, repos and reverse repos on MBonos, UDI and Bonos. The coverage activities focusing on Mexican corporate and institutional clients will remain and expand.

Mission Statement

The Head of HR for CIB Mexico is responsible to implement Human Resources Management aligned with social, , tax and regulatory rules and also to local requirements while respecting the Group’s strategy and policies. The Head of HR must act as a strong and trusted partner to internal clients by delivering strategic HR advice, providing client-focus and efficient HR services, executing the Bank’s control mandate and accelerating culture change.  

In Mexico, Human Resources covers the following main activities: 

  1. Ensure qualitative and quantitative adequacy of resources to the local and Group strategy. 
  2. Manage HR Risks
  3. Operate Individual HR Management.
  4. Strengthen employees´ engagement.
  5. Compliance with Labour and Regulatory Requirements.
  6. Internal Mobility 

The Head of HR is entrusted with Regulatory responsibilities: Legal Representative to all CIB Entities in Mexico and member of the Risk and Remunerations Committee (regulatory Committees)

Position Overview

The Head of HR has a direct responsibility of all HR activities for the two Legal Entities in Mexico. Acts as a strategic partner of the Head of Territory and Head of Businesses for all HR Mate. Is a member of the Executive Committee, CIB Mexico OpCo, Pension Plan Committee and Regulatory Watch Forum. The role must promote the Group’s values, its Management Principles and Diversity strategy. 

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities in relation with CIB Mexico (all CIB entities):

Comply with all applicable regulations (local or those defined by Group) and BNPP internal policies, this includes but is not limited to Financial Security, Know Your Client/Costumer/Supplier, Due Diligence, Client Interest Protection, Market Integrity, Professional Ethics and Respect for colleagues.

Strict compliance with the BNP Paribas Code of Conduct: Display an exemplary behaviour aligned with the Mission, Values and Rules of Conduct covering all 7 angles: customers’ interests, financial security, market integrity, professional ethics, respect for colleagues, group protection and involvement with society.

Act as the Head of Human Resources, leading all local HR functions:  Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Comp & Benef, OPC, Compensation, DEI, Employee Relations.

Work directly with the local business’ heads / function areas to align people and organizational strategies to business strategies and objectives while applying the appropriate level of confidentiality.

Partner closely with senior leaders to establish credibility as a trusted advisor to influence and support key strategic and operational decisions.

Understand the operating model for covered clients and assess impact of any changes on existing talent.

Understand market forces and business strategy and translate those requirements to talent-related requirements.

Facilitate development and execution of talent strategy with covered clients.

Identify HR’s contribution to realizing clients objectives and leverage HR services or programs to suit the needs of covered client(s).

Facilitate career management and planning in alignment with Group policies.

Identify critical metrics to assess and measure impact and results.           

Facilitate organizational change management and help leaders to align communication, behavior, and infrastructure to support the desired changes.

Mitigate risk by ensuring appropriate escalation / investigation of performance, conduct and other ER related matters.

Lead the implementation of strategic projects.

Monitor and push HR strategies within the country.

Promote and develop healthy brand image of the bank.

Supervise, control and drive the staffing strategy – identifying, recruiting and onboarding of new staff within compressed schedule.

Develop relations and ensure productive collaboration with key stakeholders.

Ensure compliance with the local labor law regulations, as well as CNBV and Banxico´s HR requirements.

Lead the Bank Remunerations Committee, Pension Plans Committee and DEI Committee.

Competences and Experience

  • 15+ years’ experience in HR (Bank/financial sectors is a plus) with 5+ years in senior management positions. 
  • Strong ability to partner and lead specialty functions of Human Resources (e.g., compensation, learning & development, mobility, employee relations) desired with a mix of operational, strategic and systems thinking experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of generalist HR role.
  • Proven track record of operating in demanding international organizations.
  • Superior people skills to efficiently interact with senior key stakeholders at country and regional levels in a multiple business’s organization.
  • Strong ability to lead and push key initiatives, strong verbal and written communication skills, solid problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business, Management, Organization Development or related field.
  • Fluent English speaker
