The position at a glance

The Energy, Resources & Infrastructure (ERI) Origination & Execution team provides advisory services, arranges, structures and advances non-recourse (or limited recourse) loans for client activities including power and energy; data centers;  renewables, such as wind, solar, batteries; and infrastructure projects.  ERI also provides other financing and tax equity related solutions.

The origination and execution of ERI transactions is done by the ERI origination and execution Group which is a part of the Asset Finance and Securitization (“AFS”) group.

ERI Credit & Portfolio Management Team is a part of the Credit & Portfolio Management within the Asset Finance & Securitization (AFS) group, and is responsible for the monitoring and proactive management of the ERI loan portfolio in North and Latin America, after the initial closing until termination / repayment.

ERI Credit & Portfolio Management Team maintains a large, diversified loan portfolio of more than 125 borrowers.

We are looking for a strong candidate for our ERI Credit & Portfolio Management Team

In detail

•         Do financial spreadsheets; review construction and operating reports; update and manage various excel spreadsheets including data inputs; 

•         Assist senior colleagues on any ad-hoc matters

•         Act as secondary credit / portfolio manager for assigned ERI deals, including credit, legal, and compliance issues.  Deals could include gas-fired merchant power plants, renewables, infrastructure projects, data centers, tax-equity bridge loans etc.  

•         For a limited number of deals, the candidate could be required to act as the primary credit / portfolio manager.

•         Prepare or assist in preparing credit and financial analysis and complete Annual Reviews, amendment requests and Quarterly Watchlist / Doubtful Reports.

•         Perform or assist in performing financial modeling and run sensitivities for transactions; interpret model results and create summaries to be used in internal and external documents.

•         Handle compliance and covenant related issues, including monitoring compliance receivables for each account. 

•         Communicate proactively with senior colleagues, Risk officers, Origination team members, relationship managers etc.

•         Liaise with the Bank’s Restructuring team for troubled deals. 

•         Help in origination and execution activities wherever appropriate.

•         Attend meetings and conference calls with Lenders, clients, legal counsel, technical consultants etc. 

•         Review legal documentation and assist in legal due diligence process; interact with appointed lawyers. 

•         Prepare credit-focused memos for internal and external dissemination.

Other:

•         Contribute to ERI Portfolio Review, including overview of the ERI portfolio, sector concentration, historical evolution of the portfolio, etc.

•         Respond to ad-hoc requests for reports and presentations from Risk and Management.

The strengths and skills that will help you succeed

Minimum Required Qualifications

•         Undergraduate degree (preferably in a related field of study)

•         1-2 years of experience of work experience in commercial/investment banking, or in performing financial modelling, or financial and credit analysis.   Non-Banking experience may also be considered

•         Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially in Microsoft Excel.

•         Good verbal and written communication skills required (ability to present a deal structure and highlights to credit committees, senior management, and other lenders).

•         Good interpersonal skills and team spirit.

•         Ability to work reasonably long hours and meet tight deadlines. 

•         Strong analytical skills, including financial and credit analysis.

• Given the vast majority of our clients, both internal and external, are based outside of Quebec and Canada, specific language requirements may apply. Knowledge of the English is required. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA / CFA / CPA would be a plus but is not required
  • Good understanding of and familiarity with financial statements, accounting, corporate finance principles, debt structures, etc. 
  • Familiarity with and efficiency in reading and understanding legal documentation (preferably legal documentation related to Project Finance including security agreements and project agreements).
  • Spanish language will be a plus.
  • Prior experience in Project Finance (or other structured finance products) would be a strong positive.
