Global Markets Data Officer – Vice President

Business Overview:

Global Markets (GM) is BNP Paribas’ capital markets business within the Corporate & Institutional Bank (CIB) division, delivering solutions across asset classes, and industry-leading services for clients including Institutional, corporates, private banks and retail distribution networks. It encompasses 3 global business lines: Fixed Income Currencies & Commodities (FICC), Global Equities and Technology Platform. Global Markets is globally present in EMEA, the Americas and Asia Pacific, with the main trading hubs located in London, Hong Kong, New York, Paris, Singapore and Tokyo

Responsibilities: 

The Global Markets Data Officer will be part of the Global Markets COO Office regionally, reporting directly to the Global Markets Americas COO, and be part of the Global Markets Chief Data Office (CDO) globally, reporting functionally to the global CDO based in EMEA.

As a Vice President in the team, the candidate will be accountable for coordinating and implementing the Bank’s data management principles across all GM activities within the team’s scope. Focus will be predominantly on the Americas region but also handle global tasks/projects.

His/her key responsibilities include:

-    Provide excellent support to key activities relating to management of data within Global Markets. This will include responsibility for the enforcement of new and remedial data management projects undertaken by GM, as well as to ensure continuous improvement of key data within critical GM business processes on a front-to-back basis.

-  Develop, co-ordinate and implement on tasks such as:

-    Defining, adapting, reviewing and operationalising data management principles and best practices for activities within personal scope, always taking into account the needs of the business.

-    Following and guaranteeing the effective and timely delivery of assigned data projects.

-    Contributing to designing practical and strategic solutions to data management problems faced by the business and functions.

-    Contributing to regulatory and surveillance initiatives to ensure proper data management is well included by design.

-    Steering the mastering of data quality within GM, including by sponsoring of ad-hoc analyses or day-to-day continuous improvement projects as appropriate, to ensure that the quality of data used is consistently reviewed and improved as required to align with the Bank’s principles and all relevant regulations, policies, norms and standards. 

-    Contributing to the definition and implementation of GM Data Strategy with the Global Markets Data Office.

-    Contributing to the definition and maintenance of data criticality classification with the Bank (confidentiality levels, personal data, etc.).

-    Participating and, where appropriate, contributing to relevant data quality governance bodies within the Bank, as well as to relevant governance Committees in relation to data management matters.

-    Contribute to the Permanent Control Committees involving GM (ICC, …)

-    Act as the main point of contact with all relevant control and support functions to facilitate the effective co-ordination of projects concerning  GM.

-  Complete complex activities and liaise with other internal teams to facilitate resolution of issues as required, escalating matters to Senior Management where appropriate.

-    Utilise expertise to make independent judgments to deal with a variety of situations, with appropriate supervision and guidance from senior colleagues where appropriate.

-    Actively build and maintain relationships with the community of stakeholders contributing to data management within GM to fully understand business requirements and to work effectively with them to design, implement and manage approaches to utilising data.

-  Work with senior data management colleagues to ensure that data management within GM is in line with the Bank’s wider approach to data. Works closely with the GM Chief Data Officer and other senior members in the data team, under their direction, to ensure that activities within the team are appropriately co-ordinated.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

o    Professional qualification and expert knowledge of data management in the context of a business like BNP Paribas.

o    Expert understanding of delivering medium to large scale hybrid Business/IT projects.

o    Good working knowledge of a wide range of professional standards and protocols relevant to the data management in the financial sector, with the ability to apply this knowledge to improve BNP Paribas processes, practices and corporate culture. 

o    Proactively able to identify areas of development, improvement or ways to maximise results and takes initiative to implement relevant actions, in the short and long term.

o    Very strong technical background in risk management, governance structures to help anticipate challenges and manage incident response and ensure business continuity.

o    Proven communication / relationship management skills. 

o    Computer literate and a good understanding of relevant software.

o    Analytical mindset and problem solving.

o    Very strong multi-tasking capability.

o    Attention to detail.

o    Ability to work well under pressure.

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $165.000 to $200,000 annually. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business line, and geographic/office location.
