EPI : European Payments Initiative / L'initiative européenne des paiements

En juillet 2020, un groupe de 16 grandes banques européennes de cinq pays (Belgique, France, Allemagne, Pays-Bas et Espagne) a ouvert la voie au futur lancement d’EPI, l'initiative européenne des paiements, en annonçant la création, à Bruxelles, de l'EPI Interim Company, chargée de lancer les travaux de mise en œuvre.
En tirant parti des paiements instantanés / SEPA Instant Credit Transfer (SCT Inst), l'ambition d'EPI est de créer une solution de paiement paneuropéenne unifiée et innovante pour les consommateurs et les commerçants à travers l'Europe, incluant un schéma de paiement par carte pour les consommateurs et les commerçants, un portefeuille numérique (wallet) et des paiements peer-to-peer (P2P). Cette solution vise à devenir une nouvelle norme de paiement pour tous les types de transactions de détail (en magasin et en ligne / e-commerce), le retrait d'espèces et le P2P, comme alternative aux solutions et systèmes de paiement internationaux existants.
Aujourd'hui, EPI Interim Company, qui a récemment été fondée, annonce l’entrée à son capital de Worldline et de Nets, qui deviennent ainsi les premiers acquéreurs non-bancaires à rejoindre EPI. L’adhésion d’acquéreurs non-bancaires contribuera grandement au développement du réseau d’acceptation d’EPI par les commerçants en Europe et permettra ainsi à EPI de renforcer son propre écosystème de paiements. D'autres discussions avec plusieurs acteurs de l’industrie sont en cours, à un stade avancé.

EPI Interim Company annonce également la nomination du Dr Joachim Schmalzl en tant que président du conseil d'administration et de Martina Weimert en tant que directrice générale de la société intérimaire.
Dr. Joachim Schmalzl est membre exécutif du conseil d’administration de l’organisation des caisses d’épargne allemandes (Deutscher Sparkassen- und Giroverband). À ce titre, il est en charge du développement du business model, de la digitalisation et de la stratégie de paiement du groupe.
En tant que Partner du cabinet de conseil en stratégie Oliver Wyman, Martina Weimert a accompagné les banques européennes partenaires d’EPI depuis le début de cette initiative et a acquis une expérience large de l’industrie des paiements en travaillant au cours des 16 dernières années sur la mise en œuvre de nombreuses solutions d'émission et d'acquisition, tant en Europe qu’à l’international pour tous types d’acteurs de l'écosystème.
