The Opera, off-limits for young people?
Inconceivable for Stéphane Lissner, head of the Paris National Opera, who thinks it should no longer be limited to an ageing, knowledgeable public but on the contrary shared and introduced to a younger, wider, more diverse audience.
With the support of the BNP Paribas Foundation, the Paris Opera continues with the “Previews for Youth” programme that has already given 100,000 young people under the age of 28 the chance to attend shows before their official première. For the 2019/2020 season, under-28s will get to see 10 special-event performances before the opening night at the exceptional price of 10 euros a ticket.
"I’ve never been to the Opera. I’ve heard it’s really luxurious. I can’t wait to see what it looks like inside."
Ibrahima (Lycée Edmond Rostand Paris 18th)

Our role: cultural transmission
Opening such an institution like the Paris National Opera to young people from various backgrounds and allowing them to visit the two prestigious Paris venues as well as discover the ballet and music is at the center of our partnership with the Paris National Opera. The programme we support offers a unique opportunity to introduce performing arts to young people who may have never set foot at the opera.
The BNP Paribas Foundation has been supporting the Paris National Opera since 2004 and more specifically their programme dedicated to inviting youth to the opera. Such commitment quite naturally inspired our support to the “Previews for Youth” programme created in 2015. The concept ? For a selection of performances during the season the Opera opens the preview show the night before the premiere, exclusively to people under 28 years old at the special price of €10 a seat.
