The bank for a changing world

French and international festivals

Supporting jazz creation means enabling musicians to create, but also and especially allowing their work to be widely broadcasted. This is the reason why the BNP Paribas Foundation supports ambitious festivals in France and in countries where BNP Paribas operates. Like the artists it supports, all the festivals receive tailored support and an attentive ear for their development ambitions.

The BNP Paribas Foundation supports many major festivals in France; the Festival Jazz à Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris, the Lille piano(s) festival, L’Esprit du Piano in Bordeaux, the festival Piano aux Jacobins in Toulouse, Jazzdor in Strasbourg and Berlin, and the Jazz sous les Pommiers festival. Since 2017, it has been the founding sponsor of the Festival Variations in Nantes, a hybrid festival dedicated to all forms of keyboard music.

Backing young talented musicians

Funding creation also means trusting the talent of passionate young jazz musicians. Despite their artistic and technical skills, they face many challenges and questions on the road to becoming professionals. The BNP Paribas Foundation funds programmes that aim to identify, develop and support beyond borders the promising artistic projects of these young talents

“Jazz Migration"

A programme aiming to support emerging French musicians created in 2002 by the organisation Association Jazz Croisé (AJC).  This programme provides the selected laureates (four groups per year) with the tools they need to professionnalise themselves. The BNP Paribas Foundation has backed this one-of-a-kind national programme since 2018.

Artist-in-residence programmes

It boosts talented musicians’ careers by providing them with the conditions they need to create and explore new horizons. In France, the Jazz sous les pommiers festival has set up an artist-in-residence programme in Coutances. Backed by the BNP Paribas Foundation, it commits musicians to getting involved in the local city life through masterclasses, moments of open discussion or concerts, all of which can take place in schools, prisons and even individuals’ homes.

Supporting young talent showcases and awards

It is the third way the BNP Paribas uses corporate philanthropy to foster the emergence of new talent. In France, it awards a prize at the Tremplin Jeunes Talents (Young Talent Springboard) at the Saint-Germain-des-Prés Paris Jazz Festival. In the Middle East, the Foundation funds the Bahrain Jazz Festival’s emerging artist award. In France, it backs the Prix Django Reinhardt of the Académie du Jazz and the Young Talent showcase at the Festival Jazz à Saint-Germain-des-Prés Paris.
