Working together to build the city of tomorrow

BNP Paribas is a proud partner of the Convergences World Forum, Europe’s first platform for thought, action and advocacy in favour of sustainable development. Every year since 2008, the event has provided a unique meeting ground for actors from the public and private sectors, civil society, academia and the media, who want to build a “Zero Exclusion, Zero Carbon, Zero Poverty” world.

Driven by its CSR policy based on four pillars – economy, people, community, environment – and 12 concrete commitments, the BNP Paribas Group takes a complementary approach and purses the same goals as Convergences.

In the run-up to this October’s Habitat III conference for a new urban agenda, the ninth edition of the Convergences World Forum will notably tackle the transition to sustainable cities and territories.

We’ll see you at Palais Brongniart and Paris’ City Hall for three days of interaction and co-construction!

Reflecting on the future of territories

This year, the Convergences World Forum is inviting all participants to focus on the crucial question of the transition toward sustainable cities and territories. This is an urgent challenge faced by countries in the global North and South alike, as urbanization progresses at a rampant pace all around the globe and the world population reaches 7.4 billion people. A global panel of expert speakers will take part in this reflection by discussing three themes:

  1. Sustainable cities and territories
  2. Meeting the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
  3. An economy serving the common good

Among the issues raised: challenges tied to demographic growth, innovative technology for humanitarian action, the power of social intrapreneurs , climate challenges faced by Mediterranean cities, the efforts of local communities in favor of low-carbon development, building zero deforestation territories, water challenges, etc. The wide range of topics illustrates the complexity of sustainable development, as well as the need for everyone involved in development to find global and sustainable solutions, from human, economic and environmental standpoints.

“Triple Zero” objective

Encouraging the convergence of all players towards a “Zero Exclusion, Zero Carbon, Zero Poverty” world is the ambition that lies at the heart of the Convergences World Forum’s approach since it began in 2008.

For BNP Paribas, partnering with the Forum is a way to reaffirm our own commitment to pursuing the Sustainable Development Goals. As a global company and bank, we have a decisive role to play in this collective effort. Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) principles guide our actions on a daily basis, as we work to promote greater social inclusion and a low-carbon economy.
