Involving everyone in innovation to better serve our customers

More than an aspect of our corporate culture, innovation lies at the core of our business model at BNP Paribas and also supports our development plan. Our top priority is to simplify and speed up banking operations by crafting unique and personalized experiences built on innovative services, digital applications, new payment methods and more. All while ensuring the security of every transaction and our customer’s data.

To succeed in this mission we are building an innovative ecosystem which includes many different internal and external initiatives. We are teaming up with startups, FinTechs, midsize businesses and major corporations. Innovation is essential when it comes to reinventing our relationship with our retail, professional and corporate banking customers.

Setting up a comprehensive ecosystem to support innovation

We continue to develop our own ecosystem for open innovation. At our five in-house startups, located in Belgium, Turkey, Italy, Luxembourg and France, our teams co-create new technologies every day with FinTech developers, digital operators and other startups.

To stimulate innovation across all of our businesses we have instituted new working methods: Open Innovation systems with our partners, startups and customers.
One example: the Jam Sessions organized by our subsidiary BNP Paribas Cardif Insurance to bring together internal experts, external specialists and distributors to brainstorm for 48 hours. Or the International Hackathon to identify the tech entrepreneurs who will contribute to improving the customer experience in banking, consumer lending and insurance.

Innovation grows out of the collaboration between a wide range of players. As a result, we encourage the dynamic activity of this ecosystem by bringing together the efforts of corporations, institutions, specific programs, startups, entrepreneurs, networks and associations. We have banded together with some of the most prestigious institutions like ESCP Europe, our partner in creating the Financial Transformation and Innovation Chair, as well as the Institut des Mines-Télécom and the University of Oxford, with whom we regular organize conferences on the major challenges facing the 21st century.  

Developing our digital presence around the world 

In July 2015, we joined forces with Google, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to become the first European bank to launch a strategic management plan and develop a presence across these digital media. In this way, the Group is working to remain open while seizing new opportunities for collaboration and innovation in communication, marketing and customer relations.
