A key element of this role is to support an Associate Director in all aspects of Building Surveying Consultancy and managing the work of a graduate surveyor - typically on a range of national corporate real estate and landed estate instructions. Clients will be from both the commercial and public sectors with a variety of professional and project work, and there will be an opportunity for client contact from day one. 

Roles and responsibilities 

Main Accountabilities 
  • Taking and being responsible for instructions reporting to Associate Director 
  • Responsible for managing own workload on day-to-day basis 
  • Design and contract administration duties - principally repair and maintenance works with some refurbishment projects including some residential work
  • Dilapidations, acting on behalf of landlords/tenants 
  • Schedules of condition 
  • Fire insurance/reinstatement valuations 
  • Planned maintenance 
  • Assisting with Technical Due Diligence Surveys 
  • Building Pathology 
Clients and Business Development 
  • Responsible for managing small instructions or subsections of major projects 
  • Works independently on most assignments and receives guidance only on unusual issues 
  • Has broad knowledge of principles and practices of related disciplines 
  • Manages existing client relationships at a senior level on a day to day basis. 
  • Can identify new business opportunities outside own discipline and pass on 
  • Supervises the work of graduate surveyors 
  • Shares knowledge with colleagues and provides information to team 
Systems and Process 
  • Works within clearly defined, well established processes under regular supervision 
  • Solves problems by following well defined processes and precedents 
  • Consults more experienced colleagues on more difficult or unfamiliar situations 
  • Generates revenue 
  • Enhances BNP Paribas Real Estate’s reputation through successful delivery 
  • Builds own network within service lines
Person specification 


  • Degree in Building Surveying 
  • MRICS qualified 

  • Experience of specification writing, design and contract administration duties - principally repair and maintenance works with residential and office refurbishment 
  • Dilapidations, acting on behalf of landlords/tenants 
  • Defect analysis 
  • Fire insurance/reinstatement valuations 
  • Planned maintenance 
  • AutoCAD 
  • Schedules of condition 
  • Acquisition/building surveys (Investor and occupier) 
  • Party Wall 
  • Project monitoring 
  • DDA surveys
Key Skills/Competencies 
  • Flexible and positive ‘can do’ approach  
  • Good IT skills including AutoCAD 
  • To be commercially minded with a strong sense of professionalism 
  • Good technical expertise 
  • Confident with clients – good communication skills 
  • Able to work with minimal supervision 
  • Keen to expand knowledge 
  • Driven to develop career through qualification and longer term experience
