Job Description Summary

Administer and support IBM MQ and WAS environments. Contributes to the adaption, and/or implementation and post implementation support of short- and long-term software solutions to business and technology needs. Reviews system requirements and business processes; tests, debugs and implements software solutions. Works independently in a fast paced environment on moderately complex issues.

Essential Job Functions
  • IBM WebSphere MQ and WAS Specialist - design application architectures to integrate systems developed on disparate platforms in n-tier environments
  • Administer & supported MQ on Windows, Solaris, Linux, AIX
  • Technical expert in other IBM products - Websphere Message Brocker, WAS,  Tivoli, etc.
  • As a middleware engineer, working very closely with the application teams, determine business requirements, propose and design solutions and set up the necessary middleware (mostly MQ, WAS) environment; and provide support to the app teams in all phases development cycle.
  • Install, configure and support WMQ V7.0 ,  7.5 & 9.0… WAS v6, 7, 8  on Windows, AIX, Solaris and Linux 
  • Act as level-1 and 2 supports for all aspects of the MQ, WAS, NDM environments: Including installing, applying fix-packs, providing support for the app developers, keeping up-to-date regarding the new features of MQ, applying security solutions etc
  • Set standards and provide guidance on MQ for Application developers. Provide in-house training to various groups on  MQ
  • Provides software support or technical support services typically in a defined moderately complex project
  • Conducts a wide range of moderately complex technical analyses to ensure that software meets or exceeds specified standards and end-user requirements
  • Reviews system requirements and business processes; debugs and implements software solutions. Makes recommendations on process improvements
  • Determines software support requirements
  • Reviews software policies, standards and procedures and make recommendations for change.
  • Leads users in the planning of user acceptance testing, alpha and beta testing
  • Creates test data files with valid and invalid records to thoroughly test program logic and verify system flow
  • Manage environments, Implement/Deploy software upgrade to various environments and support post implementation.

Other Job Duties

  • Creates Support approach, Estimation, Software Deployment Guide, Supplemental or non functional specification
  • Defines and documents software installation and configuration processes.
  • Coordinates and communicates applications support activities with key stakeholders
  • Reviews platform requirements and coordinates with vendors and other IT groups in building/maintaining hardware, 3rd party software, patches and network related components to comply with IT standards and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Experience
  • IBM WebSphere MQ and WAS Specialist
  • Requires deep knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
  • Typically viewed as a specialist within discipline.
  • May have broad knowledge of project management.
  • Requires 7 years minimum prior relevant experience.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
