Technical Lead and Head of Global Custody and Cash Operations

Position Purpose

As part of a growing Global and Local Custody business in both Australia and New Zealand the Technical Lead BSO will be responsible for the articulation and evolution of operating model on which the BNP Paribas Securities Services (BP2S) products and services are offered.
The role will be responsible for the understanding and alignment of the existing operating model to existing and potential client business and also the identification, definition and delivery of change components to the benefit of our customers or the efficiency of our organization.
Additionally the role will have oversight of our Global Custody and Cash Operations which are predominantly operated and delivered through the BP2S Global Service Organisation (GSO).


Direct Responsibilities
To meet the internal and external expectations of the role, the Technical Lead will be required to demonstrate leadership and delivery in the following areas across both the Global and Local Custody businesses
  • Operate in a central subject matter expert capacity when interacting with existing or potential clients
  • Build, develop and manage a team of subject matter and technical change experts to ensure scale of function is available to our client base
  • Work with Product and act as a central co-ordination point within BSO Client Delivery for informal and formal client requests (RFP, RFI, Due Diligence etc). The role will be responsible for the quality and completeness of response
  • Understand, align and improve operating models to different stimuli including Regulatory, Market Infrastructure, Client and internally initiated change.
  • Own the operational change agenda under the Single Book of Work, they will be accountable for the co-ordination of efficiency targets both within direct reporting line and across the broader BSO organisation
  • Using direct reporting resource and co-ordination with the BAU functional Client Delivery teams to ensure that testing and operational readiness responsibilities are effectively executed
  • Act as a central point of co-ordination into BSO Client Delivery where required, for example co-ordination of IG activity for transversal subject matter such as Financial Security Risk or other reviews
The role will also be responsible for the Client Delivery of Global Custody and Cash Services across both Australia and New Zealand, responsibilities will include:
  • Acting as the onshore business owner for the delivery of Global Custody and Cash Services, irrespective of the location in which the operational execution is performed
  • Understand the complex and evolving regulatory environment in which BP2S operates, be accountable for the execution of related activities under both the Global and Local Control Plans
  • Establish an effective relationship with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to our Agent Banking Network, Chennai operations team and the central Risk and Compliance functions
  • Be an effective point of escalation and ownership
  • Sponsor and lead programs of work of internal and external nature. Significant events in the immediate future include Project Emerald, MTS to MTM migration, Domestic Payments transition to ISO20022 and changes in International Financial Transaction Instruction (IFTI) reporting.

Ensure strong management and leadership by:
  • Demonstrating full range of BNPP managerial behaviours
  • Building and maintaining a strong and productive high performing team both within direct reporting group but also indirectly across BSO and MFSO teams
  • Effective change management support and promotion of innovation in Operations
  • Working with the Investment Manager, Local and Global Custody Account Management, Client Service and Relationship Management functions to ensure optimal Client and Investment Management experience
Contribute towards management of BP2S Asia Pacific & Global (as applicable) by:
  • Direct ownership of the AU & NZ engagement into and out of BSO Client Delivery
  • Participating actively and own effectively (where required) the management committees as required
  • Creating a co-operative and professional relationship with peers

Technical & Behavioral Competencies

  • Strong and deep experience across domestic and internal custody, both core and non-core service components
  • Drive a culture understanding and accountability, with a desire to change for the better
  • Proven change management experience
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve business objectives
  • Technical knowledge of Banking and Custodial Services, proven ability to be hands on with functions in resolving issues, problems and capitalising on opportunities
  • Effective presenter and communication across all levels of the organisation and to prospective and existing customers
  • Strong people leadership and influencing experience, 10+ yrs experience
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and deliver in a global organisation across locations, cultures and teams
Specific Qualifications
The successful candidate will have significant and demonstrated experience both in domestic and international custody.
A proven ability to manage and deliver change activities with sustainable outcomes is strongly preferred.
