Sr Operational Risk Analyst

We currently have an opening in our RISK Organization that supports the second line of defense risk management responsibilities for our Retail Banking Group (RBG) Digital Channels business. Digital Channels includes consumer and small business electronic service channels, traditional online banking, mobile banking, online account opening and online sales. The ideal team member will need a retail and business banking background (e.g., person-to-person transfers, lending and deposit products). Candidates possessing a strong familiarity with and execution of operational risk frameworks (e.g., Basel ll and COSO) and processes (risk assessment, incident management, key indicator) are highly desirable.
The Senior Operational Risk Analyst’s primary role is to support the Bank’s performance and achievement of objectives by providing business line management with a structured approach to identify, analyze, track and remediate operational risks. The team-oriented individual will serve as a Subject Matter Expert for the Bank’s Operational Risk Program.
Undertakes complex assessments of business unit exposures, identifying risks, analyzing and evaluating their potential impact and reviewing the strengths and weaknesses of existing controls.
Assists the Operational Risk Manager in the development of business line risk reporting, which includes risk appetite, risk metrics, technology risk profile, risk acceptance and other pertinent data in order to provide a holistic risk profile for RBF business functions.
Escalates material issues to various levels of management for transparency and active risk management.
Provides guidance, check and challenge and consultation for management regarding the Bank’s Operational Risk Program.
Leads or completes ad-hoc projects to support the Operational Risk Department.
Works with other risk functions to develop and implement controls that mitigate excessive risks.
Leads/facilitates risk assessment workshops with project managers, product managers, and various business process owners.
Assists in embedding operational risk management into Bank of the West’s culture, through interaction with business line management, the development and execution of education and training, and the implementation and support of the Three Lines of Defense risk model.
Performs oversight of governance of Digital Channels technology related operational risk to ensure identification, documentation, assessment, quantification, mitigation and management through the lifecycle of the platform/product/service offered.
Assists and advises the business in the development and documentation of material changes to processes and products across the enterprise.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Business, IT, Security, Risk Management or related field required.
Master’s/Advanced Degree in Risk Management or IT preferred.
CRM, CORP, CISA, CISSP and CISM certification preferred.
- Five years of risk management experience, preferably in the banking or financial services industry.
- Three + years’ experience working in Technology Risk Management, IT Audit or Information Security.
- The candidate must have strong business process risk management skills.
- The candidate must have solid organizational skills, with the ability to handle complex projects in a multi-tasking environment and meet deadlines with quality results.
- The candidate must possess strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing, business requirement proposals, client interaction and methodology documentation.
- The candidate must be able to work independently and proactively to solve problems quickly.
- The candidate must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft office suite Word, EXCEL, PowerPoint, Visio etc.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with thoroughness and attention to detail, is highly desired.
- Prior experience working on large implementation projects would be beneficial for the candidate.
