Pension Specialist

Reporting into the Head of Pension, Benefits and Wellbeing, specific responsibilities will include:

Lead work on DB pension schemes

• 5 DB Schemes (a £1.2bn scheme, plus 4 smaller schemes) with 4 employers

• There is also a hybrid DB/DC scheme with a 5th employer (the team manages pension and benefit for all 10 BNP Paribas companies in the UK)

• Dual role supporting bank and trustees (but just the bank in conflict situations)

• Managing relationship with the professional trustee, trustee advisers (common across all schemes, except we have 2 administrators) and the Bank advisers

• Managing IAS19 process

• Support includes outsourced scheme secretarial service

Manage DB Project Work

• In 2019 we hope to undertake a pensioner buy-in for one scheme and a full buy-in for another

• In 2020 we expect to run at least one Enhanced Transfer Value Exercise

• In 2019 we have one rectification (correcting rule error from 1990s)

• And we have GMP Reconciliation, GMP Equalisation and ensuring schemes data ready for buy-in and ETVs

Support DC Pensions Specialist and Flex Benefits Team

• The DB and DC Pensions Specialists will cover and support each other, helping each to develop

• Both DB and DC Specialists will support the Benefits Team, and vice versa

• The aim is to develop rounded pension and benefit professionals


• The shape of the team is changing, giving opportunities for the successful candidate

• Previously the team had a Pensions Manager, Deputy Pensions Manager and Benefits Manager (plus a senior Benefits Analyst and shared pension & benefit junior, which remain unchanged).  The first two roles will be reshaped as above.  Further, the Benefits Manager will take on wider responsibility for Pension & Benefit coordination and management

The ideal candidate will be a DB focussed pensions professional looking to expand their skills.  This is a small team that doesn’t stand still and is always looking to achieve industry best standards through hard work, innovation and creativity. A candidate with the skills, knowledge and desired approach will find they have the autonomy and support to make a positive difference. In this role there is plenty of scope for bringing new ideas and seeing them through to fruition. Equally important is a proven commitment to data accuracy and high standards of service.
