Description of the Department:

A central team of technical experts, the Compliance team provide specialized services and expertise on technical areas on Compliance topics, such as financial security, professional ethics, market integrity, protecting interests of clients, Group policy and local regulatory obligations. They work closely with the heads of the business and partner with the various leadership teams providing technical advice and support.


Mission: is the effective management of key regulatory risk through appropriate level of controls over the business. Compliance is responsible for the review, development and oversight of ethical practices, internal policy, and legal and regulatory requirements implementation. We provide assurance on the subsequent compliance of same and / or monitor and oversee the resolution of any identified issues of non-compliance or areas of key risk. We act as a liaison for external regulators, auditors and industry bodies.


Summary of the Role:

The Compliance – Assurance position maps out, assesses and reports Compliance related risk or risk areas (risk oversight) and maintains an efficient risk management system.

Key Responsibilities:

IN ORDER TO PROVIDE AN ACCURATE PICTURE OF THE POSITION, WE SUGGEST YOU IDENTIFY NO MORE THAN 10 KEY RESPONSIBILITES WHICH ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT FOR THIS ROLE.

  • Team development: optimizes performance of the Policy & Regulatory Office team through working together. Understands how different individuals within the team bring different skills and approaches. Encouraging working together to achieve collective goals.
  • Subject matter expert in Group compliance permanent control policies.

  • Permanent Control:

    • Performs compliance risk mapping and management (eg AML / CFT risk map, compliance plan risk mapping, assisting ORPC with compliance function risk map, etc)

    • Ensures the effectiveness of the compliance permanent control function, notably though carrying out on-site and off-site controls:

      • Performing and reporting on a timely basis all compulsory control plans

      • Designing and testing of localised control plans

      • Design and implement compliance key risk indicators

      • Manage oversight of compliance outsourcing partners

    • Identifies required evolutions of the existing control system and coordinates the creation of new controls, as needed (in cooperation with Compliance - Policy and Regulatory Office)

    • Ensures the definition of action plans and monitors their progress through to resolution

    • Monitors the implementation of all compliance actions and compliance related recommendations issued by regulators, internal or external auditors

    • Performs compliance ‘deep dive’ where risk indicators warrant one to be performed

    • Performs monitoring and follow-up of open compulsory training courses, issuing reminders where required (provided not in conflict with level 2 testing)

  • Coordinate and manage all internal and external audit missions related to compliance topics

Qualifications & Experience required for the role:

  • Degree qualified in Business, Law or Commerce

  • Technically specific qualifications or evidence of ongoing development for area of specialization eg: Compliance Management

  • Post graduate qualifications in law beneficial

Technical Skills required for the role:

  • Prior compliance experience

  • Sound knowledge of risk principles
  • Good understanding of compliance principles and local regulatory and market requirements (ASIC, AUSTRAC, APRA, ASX, FMA, FAA), as well as industry association initiatives
  • Good understanding of the Bank’s business model and operations - knowledge in financial services, financial markets and products and their activity drivers plus, specific knowledge of custody, banking, operations, dealing, fund accounting and applying a compliance framework.
