Business Overview:
BNP Paribas Securities Services incorporates several distinct, yet complementary businesses including securities lending. The Agency Lending business recently completed an expansion into North America and is seeking qualified candidates to assist in the continued development of the product in North and South America. With almost a hundred front and back office staff based across three international locations, the candidate will play an intricate role in the trading component of the business.

Responsibilities:
The Agency Lending team provides asset owners and asset managers with securities lending services out of desks in Sydney, London, and New York. The Agency Lending team acts as an agent for a variety of clients (sovereign wealth funds, asset managers, and other asset owners such as insurance companies and financial institutions including banks and credit unions). The main function is to lend securities for either cash collateral or securities as an agent for both custody clients and non-custody clients.
Team: The US Agency Lending team is responsible for all securities lending related to North America and South America. The team handles all aspects of the lending and investment process. They work to maximize income while continually staying in compliance with the client’s constraints.

Position Overview:
The candidate will focus on securities lending from an agency and third party perspective. The group is looking for an experienced trader who has a solid understanding of securities lending, as well as a proven track record of profitability and risk management. Outside of daily business activities, the role focuses on developing new business, product development, and relationship management.

Responsibilities:
Securities Lending Trading

  • Generate revenue through the lending of assets versus cash and non-cash collateral including the investment of cash collateral according to client specified guidelines
  • Experience must include expertise in non-cash collateral lending across all asset classes and markets
  • Day-to-day management of client portfolios and all processes including loan initiation, loan maintenance and post trade activities.
  • Ability to enhance and develop new trading relationships with counterparties to increase distribution channels.
  • Experience utilizing automated processes such as industry vendors to facilitate loan execution
  • Ensures risks are properly managed, monitored, and minimized
  • Execute transactions across all asset classes and an expansive list of currencies and markets
  • Possess an in-depth understanding of the regulatory environment
  • Experience monetizing opportunities in under-utilized asset classes or special situations
  • Proven track record of implementing efficient processes in the daily flow of activity

Relationship Management

  • Support the management of Agency Securities Lending client relationships and maximizing returns on client portfolios on a risk adjusted basis
  • Develop understanding of clients’ business, objectives, goals and market challenges, and liaises with the group’s relationship management teams to ensure consistency with the overall client development plan
  • Promote the business at industry conferences while supporting the business development and relationship management initiatives
  • Provide relevant market commentary and product expertise for business development opportunities

Product Management

  • Provide input on implementing product enhancements
  • Follow relevant regulations and determine the implications to the product and the Bank, and make appropriate recommendations for product developments

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a leadership capacity for securities lending
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics or similar field; MBA preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of securities lending including cash and non-cash collateral, domestic and international lending
  • Experience in a client facing role with ability to discuss market intricacies in detail
  • Proficient with industry standard programs, tools and models with advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Light to moderate programming experience preferred
  • A strong performer, with deep knowledge of the products traded
  • Excellent attention to detail within a highly process-driven role
  • Must be team oriented, a self-starter and proactive, with the ability to think and analyze situations independently
  • Should have the ability to perform well under pressure & meet time-sensitive deadlines
  • Has the ability to multi-task & manage various ad-hoc projects

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated track record of revenue generation in a similar role
  • Experience serving in a leadership role for an agent lender
  • Strong understanding of market dynamics and regulation
  • Evidence of building trading relationships
