Position Purpose

As part of CIB APAC’s Capital Markets Group (CMG), Loans & Specialized Finance (LSF) is responsible for the origination of financing solutions with clients and prospects of BNPP across the Asia Pacific region, including with corporates, financial sponsors, promoters, financial institutions and MNCs.

Loans & Specialized Finance (LSF) originates a wide range of loans across the credit spectrum, across the entire capital structure and across a wide array of situations, ranging from vanilla loans to complex/structured transactions, across Asia-Pacific, in close coordination with other CIB/BNP teams, in particular Coverage teams, Distribution/Syndicate teams and other regional or global product lines.

The role is to support senior team members in, or lead directly on less complex transactions, the origination and execution of all loan transactions handled by Loans & Specialized Finance (LSF) across the Asia Pacific region with a focus on Loan Capital markets (LCM), Telecom Media Technology (TMT) and Fund Financing (FFG), which handle in particular corporate loans, leveraged loans, promoter loans and fund level financings

Direct Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the origination and execution of syndicated or bilateral, structured/event-driven loans with PE firms, corporate borrowers (large corporates or mid-market/rising champions), promoters, as well as FI’s or MNC’s, in coordination with HOTs, FIC, Corporate and MNC Coverage teams, Sector teams and WM, across products and across the capital structure (corporate loans, LBOs, minority/HoldCo deals, promoter loans, fund financings, bridge loans, TLBs, mezzanine, etc)
  •  Supervising or directly handling credit analysis, financial modeling, risk analysis, financial analysis, legal/structure analysis, etc
  •  Supervising or directly handling initial screening memos, credit applications and other internal papers on transactions
  •  Lead directly, or on more complex transactions together with a senior team member, the transaction structuring, term, sheets preparation and negotiation, documentation review and negotiation
  •  Participation in client meetings, calls, on transactions or general courtesy calls or pitches, attendance of conferences, events, etc
  •  Contribute with other senior LSF team members to idea generation, prospect identification, initial credit/debt capacity analysis, pitch book preparation, etc
  •  Supervise all closing and funding related tasks and liaison with other internal teams to ensure smooth closings
  •  Supervise or directly handle annual reviews and process waiver requests on transactions booked by LSF
  •  Adopt a solution-driven origination approach, pushing solutions over products, with a particular focus on originating value-adding/structured loan situations
  •  Answer RFPs timely, always strive to beat deadlines, high reactivity to client requests
  •  Coordinate with Loan Syndication and Sales on pricing, underwriting and distribution strategies
  •  Leverage broader BNPP’s coverage, products and distribution capabilities in APAC + EMEA/US, in particular on cross-border transactions
  •  Close collaboration with other IB products (DCM, ECM, M&A, hedging) to offer integrated solutions and push cross-sell
  •  Manage portfolio, close credit monitoring and timely contribution to the effort internally and externally on problem files, including major waivers, restructurings, etc
  •  Systematically push and pitch internally and externally cross-sell including GM
  •  Expand external network with peer banks to support the origination effort, maintain close contact with other active players in the market
  •  Maintain for own deals and activity up to date and accurate data bases, systems, portfolio, pipeline, meeting and other reports as well as financial/income forecasts, budget preparation, etc
  •  Impeccable conduct and strict individual ccompliance with all applicable compliance, conduct, other policies
  •  Contribute to the achievement of LSF’s yearly budget
  •  Be the first line of defense on Risk/Credit/Compliance
  •  Other tasks as required or defined from time to time

Technical and Behavioral Competencies required

  • Understanding of various loan products and ability to put together complex structures/transactions
  • Track-record in executing loans across the credit spectrum including complex/structured loans
  • Understanding of other IB products (ECM, DCM, M&A, hedging)
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Pro-activity, dynamism, initiative, commitment to pitch and persistence in origination
  • Autonomy, flexibility adaptability, ability to solve problems, think outside the box and develop complex financing solutions
  • Strong commitment, ability to work flexible hours and travel extensively
  • High work ethics and Integrity

Experience and Qualifications required

  • Bachelor degree
  • At least 6 years’ experience in loan origination and structuring with a leading market player
  • Fluency in English and an APAC language would be a plus
