Sustainability Coordinator - London

Job Purpose

The Sustainability Coordinator will be part of the BNP Paribas Real Estate Property Management Sustainability team.  Responsibilities will be divided between an outsourced ESG (environmental, social and governance) role with a specific client fund manager (60%) and portfolio-wide duties to measure, monitor and enhance our other clients’ sustainability performance.


Role description – Fund ESG Role (60%)

The purpose of this role is to provide a specified client with a fully outsourced ESG function that covers the full property lifecycle, from acquisition to disposal.  It will involve enhancing ESG performance across two property funds through the proactive interpretation of existing and new environmental legislation, the development, promotion and adoption of leading ESG standards and performance, and through ensuring that relevant stakeholders are engaged and informed.


Key deliverables for this role are:


ESG Property Strategy Development & Implementation

  • Establish ESG objectives and targets for the portfolios, both in terms of acquisition and management
  • Consider elements of ESG activity that should be disclosed
  • Act as Secretariat to the quarterly Responsible Investment and Property Committee

Mitigation of ESG Risk

  • Ensure that ESG compliance requirements across the portfolios are fully satisfied
  • Ensure that energy performance risk is mitigated

Monitoring of ESG Performance

  • Consider appropriate use of management systems to drive continual improvement in ESG performance
  • Consider appropriate use of data management systems to monitor ESG performance
  • Review existing  indicators to monitor performance and amend in light of changing stakeholder demands, including EPC ratings, green lease clauses etc
  • Collate and present energy data
  • Collate and present GHG data
  • Collate and present water data
  • Promote the health, safety and wellbeing agenda across the portfolios

Recognition of ESG Performance

  • Liaise where appropriate with members of Client and BNPPRE teams to promote ESG matters
  • Liaise where appropriate with occupiers to promote ESG matters
  • Promote ESG opportunities within the supply chain
  • Ensure community engagement opportunities are maximised across the portfolios

New Acquisitions & Major Renovations

  • Ensure ESG requirements are embedded and evidenced in the acquisition and project planning stages
  • Ensure ESG requirements apply to materials use and certification requirements associated with projects
  • Promote ESG opportunities within the project supply chain
  • Compile PRI reporting on behalf of Real Estate for Client

Role description – Sustainability Coordinator (40%)

The purpose of this element of the role is to drive our clients’ sustainability performance through the proactive interpretation of existing and new environmental legislation, the development, promotion and adoption of leading environmental standards and performance, and through ensuring that our colleagues are appropriately trained and engaged.


Key deliverables for this element of the role are:

  • Support the UK businesses to ensure legal compliance and embed a management system approach to sustainability performance improvement
  • Interpret and apply statutory requirements
  • Monitor the environmental performance of buildings under management
  • Identify where performance can be improved and recommend solutions
  • Produce comprehensive progress reports on sustainability performance for properties under our management to clients
  • Provide regular updates to Property Management colleagues on best practice and legislative requirements
  • Assist in tendering for new business
  • Prepare marketing materials to promote sustainability services offered
  • Train staff on sustainability principles, legislation, risks and opportunities
  • Co-ordinate and identify best in class service providers to enhance BNPPRE’s offering
  • Recommend policies and actions that encourage sustainability
  • Liaise with other departments to further identify fee earning opportunities
  • Contribute towards the development of policy and strategy within REFM
  • Procure goods and services, following procedures and policies
  • Measure and report supplier performance against agreed SLAs
  • Maintain regular and effective communication with clients and tenants
  • Maintain regular and effective communication with internal colleagues in Property Management, support functions and the wider Real Estate business
  • Work effectively with a range of specialist consultants to deliver agreed outcomes

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in a related discipline
  • IEMA membership

Experience

  • Thorough knowledge of environmental legislation and certification relating to the built environment generally, but specifically for buildings under management
  • Experience and working knowledge of the commercial property sector
  • Understanding of the commercial aspects of ESG in property investment and management
  • Knowledge of modern principles and practices of environmental improvement methods as applied to the maintenance of commercial buildings and refurbishment
  • Working knowledge of specialist software programs relating to environmental performance
  • Management of supplier relationships at a senior level
  • Excellent English language skills – both written and spoken
  • IT literate – MS Office at intermediate level
  • Full clean driving licence
