Senior Performance Analyst (18 month Fixed Term Contract)

This role will initially be based in Glasgow/London, however subject to travel restrictions and visa permits being secured the post holder will be based in Saudi Arabia.

Department purpose / objectives


 


The Investment Reporting & Performance (IRP) function exists to provide Performance and Ex Post Risk, Attribution, Exposure Reporting and other client reporting services to institutional investors across the UKME region. The department consists of the following: - 



  • Performance Analysts and client-facing Service Managers to run and oversee production

  • Change & Implementation Analysts based within the broader Change & Business Implementation team


·     Product & Solutions Managers to design, pitch and maintain best in class reporting solutions.



Purpose & Scope of the position:


The purpose of this role is to lead the successful build-out of an IRP service for a client in Riyadh, under Project Tawun.



The role itself will be provided out of the UK but based in Saudi Arabia, working directly within the offices of a local bank on behalf of a large Sovereign Wealth Fund client (Project Taawun). This will be a multi-faceted, senior role. The individual will blend technical expertise, industry experience and managerial oversight to establish an IRP service and ensure the appropriate alignment of the local Client structure to support this service within the region.


 


Key Responsibilities of the role:


 


Service Delivery


  • The key IRP work-stream contact reporting to the local Programme Manager for Project Tawun
  • Work with the local bank, the client, the project team and relevant working groups to establish a credible IRP service:


    • Assist with the hiring process to build out a team of IRP experts,

    • Run programmes and on-the-job training to embed technical knowledge,

    • Attend regular project calls and agile sprints to assist with the development of online reporting dashboards (with the VI Company); and

    • Provide SME oversight and support for the market tender, implementation and roll-out of relevant industry software (likely to be B-One)


  • Offer strategic input to develop the structure, process and controls needed for the local bank’s IRP service.


  • Project manage implementations, projects and change events ensuring they are delivered on time, on budget and to the client’s satisfaction


  • In the initial phases, implement the client’s legacy Excel-based “performance spreadsheet” at the local bank. This will need to be thoroughly audited, reconfigured and automated to capture meaningful data for the calculation of reliable performance metrics for the international assets (from BPSS), the local assets (from the local bank) and the combined book.
  • In later phases, offer technical support and oversight with the market tender, selection and roll-out of performance and risk software for the local assets
  • Provide regular feedback to local project and production team on service expectations
  • Be a subject matter expert across the end to end production cycle


  • Maintain day-to-day production contact with internal operational and accounting teams and develop key relationships across a range of internal stakeholders, becoming a key ambassador for BNP Paribas.


  • Act as a lead contact and escalation point in the event of urgent or unresolved performance or reporting queries received from either the local team and/ or the client; act as the link between the two.

  • Meet with client as required to ensure the service delivery is of a high standard, maintaining a strong focus on timeliness and accuracy as measured by service KPIs


 


Projects & Change 


  • Seek to optimise end to end production under your oversight, working transversally across the business as required

  • Work on client change control aimed at developing, extending, or improving the existing service received by the client

  • Oversee restructures and on-boarding activities

Skills and Experience required



Essential Experience:


 


  • Demonstrable track record in a performance analysis function. Within this the following balance of experiences would be ideal: -

    • Solid working experience working within performance measurement and attribution calculation and reporting function, with direct fund manager / client contact with within an asset management / securities services context

    • Good working experience on performance related project work (e.g. system implementation (B-One preferable) or process optimisation) outside of the normal performance reporting production cycle

  • Experience in a client-facing role

  • Practical understanding of market data such indices, analytics, and standard classification structures

  • Practical understanding of ex-post risk statistics such as tracking errors, sharpe ratios, alpha, beta, volatility etc. Ability to be able to calculate from first principles 

  • Practical experience using performance / attribution / risk calculation & reporting systems

  • Practical understanding of multiple instrument types, including derivatives and how they should be treated within performance measurement

  • Practical experience of explaining performance and attribution results to clients 

  • Strong Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills

Desirable:



  • Fluent or conversant in Arabic

  • Database management using SQL

  • Microsoft Excel VBA

  • Knowledge of Hi-port accounting systems

  • Practical experience of calculating composite benchmarks, hedge benchmarks, drifting and rebasing weights

  • Practical experience writing business specification documents, test plans, implementation plans and governance documents


Qualifications required for the role:



Essential:


  • IAQ, IMC or relevant BA / BSc degree​


Desirable:


  • MA / MSc, CFA, CIPM, FRM
