Guarantee Senior Officer

Purpose of the Department

The Trade Services team is responsible for issuance of Bank Guarantees and Standby Letters of Credit; Front to back processing of Documentary Letters of Credit/Collections, Managing Receivable and Payable financing for corporate clients. 

Permanent Position

The Guarantee Senior Officer will play a vital role in managing Guarantees/SBLCs issuance related  transaction activities, work closely with Transaction Banking Product Management team, Regional Back office team, Compliance, Internal Legal Counsel, Finance & Controls.


Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake responsibility for reviewing, drafting, and execution of Demand Guarantees, Ensure potential risks concerning the wording are raised, either accepted by Legal & Business or mitigated by revision, making sure all ambiguities and contradictions are addressed.
  • Review incoming Standby Letter of Credit applications and amendments to determine workability, accurately interpret and execute instructions while complying with bank’s policy.
  • Minimize Operational incident by performing stringent control checks on non-standard or unusual issuance requests. Ensure all Guarantees and Standby Letters of Credit are issued in accordance with Group policies, UCP Rules, Checklists and SOPs.
  • Acknowledge and respond to enquiries from external clients and internal stakeholders promptly while demonstrating higher standards of client service at all times.
  • Identify process improvement, seeking efficiency opportunities and creative alternatives,
  • Generate ideas and solutions that more productive, with value added or cost saving opportunities during day-to-day work.
  • Remain vigilant, Identify, review and report potential operational problems, concerns, complaints to higher levels.
  • Ability to maintain consistent performance, and to comply with operating procedures

Experience and Qualifications required


  • Tertiary studies in the Banking / Finance Industry, 5 or more years relevant experience in similar fields
  • Proven track records working in an Operational area handling Bank guarantees

Technical Experience


  • Demonstrated knowledge of Uniform Rules for Demand Guarantees (URDG758) & ISP98, and how a guarantee should be structured.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Australian and global banking regulatory and compliance environments
  • Experience of controls to manage Operational Risks


  • Knowledge of general banking products and basic accounting
  • AML / CTF controls

Other key considerations:

  • Bring Direct contribution to BNPP operational permanent control framework
  • Minimize operational failure, including but not exclusively the risk of fraud by helping to devise and by implementing sufficient regular controls
  • Ensure appropriate escalation to management and/or permanent control (or compliance as appropriate) as soon as an issue is identified.
  • Comply with internal and external regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Comply with the BNPP standards of Code of Conduct
  • Comply with the BNPP IT Security policies
