Description of the Department:
The Corporate Actions team sits within the Clearing and Custody Services Operations Division of BNP Paribas Securities Services (BP2S). They are responsible for the correct processing of Equity and Fixed Income corporate actions, including income, dividend reinvestment plans, corporate events, research and proxy voting. 
The team is responsible for the Research and Processing of all Mandatory and Voluntary Domestic Corporate Actions as well as processing of all Fixed Income related Corporate Actions including coupon payments. The team ensure instructions are correctly reflected within the investment system, elections are actioned correctly and completed within market deadlines.
They are a motivated and results focused team, as theirs is a high risk, time critical function. They communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders (including Investment Managers, Brokers, Registries, Company Secretaries, the ASX and BNP Paribas clients) as part of their process management.  They investigate and resolve cash and security reconciliation exceptions that may arise off the back of corporate events.

Summary of the Role: 

The Corporate Actions Manager performs a critical role in the Corporate Actions Team as they are responsible for all three streams, supported by the Team Leaders they are ultimately responsible for workflow management and staff supervision.

A Manager has the ability to communicate effectively with various people at differing levels. Communication occurs with Investment Managers (IMs) and IM support, Traders and BP2S Clients.  Internally, regular interactions take place with BP2S teams from Investment Administration, Relationship Management, Fund Administration and Custody Operations, ensuring the timely and correct treatment of Corporate actions. They regularly deal with Registries, the ASX and Company Secretaries as part of the research of events to make sure announcements out to Clients and IM’s are correct and have all the relevant information. They also deal with ad hoc issues or requests & are often called upon to make urgent decisions on Corporate Actions treatment.
A valuable and contributing team member with a commitment to accuracy and a service ethic, they also have a positive work ethic. They complete their work accurately and on time, in line with operational risk policies, ensuring compliance.  They support the team and other team members in participating in cross training and providing support and coverage during busy periods.  They are keen to learn and develop their technical knowledge and skills.   As this is a growth business and the volumes handled in this area continue to increase, the ability to see and suggest any opportunities for improvement are expected in this role.

Qualifications & Experience required for the role:
Degree qualified in Business, Accounting or related discipline; or relevant work experience in a similar role. Securities Institute Qualifications (beneficial but not essential).
With a minimum 7 years Corporate Actions in Custody or Fund Managment, the Manager has proven experience in delivering great results.  They are committed to performing their function fully and producing excellent results.
They should have a superior technical knowledge across both Domestic Corporate Events from both Custody & Accounting perspectives.  They should understand how to research and then process corporate actions instructions correctly on behalf of clients. The Manager should possess superior numeracy and analytical skills and excellent attention to detail.  They should have the ability to complete accurate daily and monthly reconciliations and/or ad hoc query investigation & resolution across all Corporate Actons issues.
The role involves extensive dealings both with Internal & External parties. The role requires a good understanding of risk and compliance requirements including the use of control checklists and a commitment to education around key risk policies.   Awareness of how and when to escalate issues - and the ability to foster a questioning, improvement and escalation culture is important.

Technical Skills required for the role: 

Technical Knowledge

Minimum 7 years Corporate Actions experience with Custodian or Fund Manager.

Superior technical knowledge in:

  • Domestic & International Corporate events

  • Equities and fixed Income products and systems

  • Custody, treasury and/or investment management operations.
