ROLE DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE

  • The CEO and Country Head Malaysia has full accountability for the management of BNPP AM's activities in Malaysia. The role may require the candidate to also represent BNPP AM companies as a board of director.
  • The role includes accountability for the development and implementation of the local strategy, ensuring coherence with the functional initiatives and global strategy. He/She will input to strategies aimed at medium-term growth such as the identification and evaluation of potential major commercial transaction and partnerships. To be in charge of the day to day management of local corporate affairs.
  • The role holder has oversight responsibility for the country budget and general management activities via chairing local management teams as required. He/She maintains and develops organizational culture, values and reputation in its markets and with all staff, customers, suppliers, partners and regulatory/official bodies and the development of relationships across BNP Paribas Group.
  • In addition, the CEO holds direct responsibility for the institutional sales and a shared responsibility for the wholesale distribution in Malaysia, and in this respect also directly manages local sales function. This includes responsibility for the budget, cost management, P&L focus, development and retention the client base, and the promotion of BNPP AM brand/thought leadership in in Malaysia. Under this scope, also included coordination of BNPP AM’s Islamic Business Segment, including the monitoring of the segment's P&L, developing and executing a segment business plan, mobilizing resources where appropriate to promote the develop of the segment's business objectives and client base, by working closely with colleagues in APAC and around the world (both IN, DS, Marketing, Investments etc).
  • BNPP AM is a member of a few industry and regulatory bodies. The CEO may require to represent BNPP AM with these bodies and the regulators.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Chief Executive Officer - Malaysia

  • Business strategy and performance: Responsible for delivering the business strategy and meeting the financial, operating and reputational goals of operations within the Malaysia.
  • APAC Management: As part of the APAC Regional Leadership Team (RLT), the candidate is to actively contribute to strategic discussion in the RLT meeting or projects as assigned.
  • Local Management Team: Chairman of the local management team. Consists of representatives of the various Divisions.
  • Planning & budgeting: Draws up annual budgets. Plans and controls costs taking into account business plan objectives.
  • Human Resources: Assumes a visible and active leadership role toward all staff (via key presentations and events), whilst managing the local country management teams in order to achieve the budgeted business targets. Ensures the right people strategy is deployed. To manage, coach, motivate all local Divisions in order to achieve the optimum results. Locally manage, coach and develop the team he/she is in charge of. Close cooperation with HR for designing and monitoring a number of strategic HR activities.
  • Team Integration: Ensures coherence of strategic and tactical decision making between function and regional needs. Presents activities and their positioning within the strategy in order to ensure an optimal integration of his/her team within BNPP AM as a whole.
  • Legal and Compliance: Final responsibility for all issues related to legal & compliance at local level. To manage, design and implement, in close cooperation with the local and regional compliance function. Prime representative towards regulatory bodies. Formal point of contact for internal audit at local level.

Country Sales

  • Deliver the Country Sales Budget, on both revenue and cost targets.
  • Retain and develop the client base.
  • Institutional  Sales and Client Servicing: To manage the various processes involved regarding market development, acquisition, client acceptance and client servicing.
  • Promote thought leadership and brand leadership.
  • Provide leadership to the Wholesale distribution Sales.

Financial security responsibilities

  • As the position bearing the primary responsibility for ensuring adequate client/intermediary due diligence and exercising constant vigilance over the business relationship;
  • To ensure that the KYC process is carried out in a complete and timely manner so that all KYC files that the Company is responsible for are always maintained up-to-date
  • To contribute to the information and documentation collection and updating as well as to the provision of qualitative analysis, including materiality of adverse information, which is necessary for the Company to eventually decide on the client onboarding or recertification
  • To fulfill other responsibilities as set forth in the applicable KYC/ KYI policy
  • To review the files, validate the onboarding/ recertification decision, and chair CARC when required

  • Internal: Management, Directorship , APAC RLT, Compliance, Investment Teams, Investment Specialists, Communications & Marketing
  • External: Regulators, Clients, Peers and relevant stakeholders

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor/Masters degree or equivalent.
  • In depth industry knowledge and experience in the area of Asset Management & Financial Markets. Knowledge of Malaysian institutional client basis and their needs. At least 10 years’ experience in the asset management industry with extensive experience in managing people, sales & marketing of asset management products, negotiation and solving problems.
