Position Purpose

The Corporate Actions team sits within the clearing and Custody Services Operations Division of BNP Paribas Securities Services (BP2S). They are responsible for the correct processing domestic Fixed Income and Equity corporate actions, including income, dividend reinvestment plans, corporate events, research and proxy voting. 


The role of the team is to research all Australian domestic and New Zealand equity and fixed income Corporate Actions, process and monitor all client instructions to market, reconcile all local entitlements to market, assist with account setups for proxy voting


They are a motivated and results focused team, as theirs is a high risk, time critical function. They communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders (including Investment Managers, Brokers, ASX and BNP Paribas clients) as part of their process management.  They investigate and resolve cash and equity reconciliation exceptions.

The Corporate Actions Officer performs an important role in the Corporate Actions team.

Their tasks may include; corporate action research; income or core event entitlement processing; dividend re-investment plan processing; proxy voting processing and the investigation of reconciliation exceptions.  The officer will, process corporate action instructions correctly ensuring they are accurately reflected in systems enabling correct completion within market deadlines.

An officer has the ability to communicate effectively with various people at differing levels. Communication occurs with Investment Managers (IMs) and IM support, Traders and BP2S Clients.  Internally, regular interactions take place with BP2S teams from Investment Administration, Relationship Management, Fund Administration and Custody Operations, ensuring the timely and correct settlement of all related equity trades.  They also deal with ad hoc issues or requests.

A valuable and contributing team member with a commitment to accuracy and a service ethic, they also have a positive work ethic. They complete their work accurately and on time, in line with operational risk policies, ensuring compliance.  They support the team and other team members in participating in cross training and providing support and coverage during busy periods.  They are keen to learn and develop their technical knowledge and skills.   As this is a growth business and the volumes handled in this area continue to increase, the ability to see and suggest any opportunities for improvement will be valued.

Responsibilities include domestic equity set ups and maintenance, corporate action research, income and core event entitlement processing, dividend re-investment plan processing, the investigation of reconciliation exceptions,  the processing of corporate action instructions correctly ensuring that they are accurately reflected in systems enabling correct completion within market deadlines.

Technical and Behavioural Competencies required

  • Prior Experience in the Australian / NZ Market for Local Custody Corporate Actions

  • Good Experience in handling in house Custody Systems

Experience and Qualifications required  

Prior commercial experience in financial services custody, back office or treasury operations, the Officer has a results and improvement focus in the way they work.  They are committed to performing their function fully and producing excellent results.

The ability to complete accurate daily and monthly reconciliations and/or ad hoc query investigation & resolution.  They have basic knowledge of various corporate actions (domestic) including knowledge of corporate events, dividend re-investment plans, proxy voting, etc.  In addition how to research and then process corporate actions instructions correctly on behalf of clients. The Officer should possess solid numeracy and analytical skills and excellent attention to detail.

Extensive dealings will be required with internal BNP2S teams/staff.  Day-to-day the use of 2-step (input-verification) processes.  Awareness of risk and compliance requirements including the use of control checklists and a commitment to education around key risk policies.   Awareness of how and when to escalate issues - and the ability to foster a questioning, improvement and escalation culture is important.

Participate in team working groups and training sessions on new projects.  Assist SME’s to get further in-depth knowledge on projects.
