Position Summary

Responsible for reviewing and determines decisions on non-financial and/or financial applications, loan renewals and ACH over limits.  In this entry level role, primarily works with Branch Sales Team.



Position Accountabilities

  • Requests and evaluates appropriate information in support of making an informed non-financial and/or financial credit decision.
  • Identifies credit strengths, weakness, and industry risk and subsequently determines the best product and/or structure for both the client and the Bank.  Based on the information provided, determines an appropriate loan structure (i.e. product, dollar amount, collateral, approval conditions, etc.)
  • Evaluates all financial statements (business and personal tax returns, fiscal personal financial statements and personal financial statements) to determine credit worthiness.  Identifies recurring and non-recurring income/expense.  Comprehends all schedules, notes, and K-1's.  Understands and adjusts for differences between cash and accrual accounting methods.
  • Effectively interacts with the Branch Sales Staff communicating the reasoning for a particular design, answers potential loan request questions, and determines cross-sell opportunities, etc.
  • Prepares clear and concise credit summaries and communicates decisions in a timely manner.
  • Works with maturing and past matured term loans to ensure that they are renewed, paid off, and/or transferred to special assets for collection.
  • Identifies potential risk loans and takes action to escalate to supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Education or Equivalent Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required


Required Experience

  • Years of functional/professional experience: Minimum of two years related experience


Field of Experience

  • Proficient in evaluating business and credit reports
  • Good working knowledge of information and data processing systems
  • Good understanding of loan documentation and non-real estate collateral security perfection requirements
  • Working knowledge of Bank of the West Policy and Procedures
  • Good understanding of various regulatory compliance policy and procedures including but not limited to Fair Lending, OFAC, Flood, Regulation O, etc.
  • Meets and/or Exceeds department Service Level Agreements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
