The programme offers an excellent opportunity to gain hand's on experience and will give you the chance to experience a full-time role in one of our business lines or functional areas. From the outset, you will be contributing to the output of your team, taking responsibility and working with leading professionals.

The role:

We have an opportunity for a trainee to join Securities Lending, within our Market & Financing Services (MFS) Department. Securities Lending is a capital markets activity that generates extra returns from our clients’ assets while providing the wider market with better liquidity, improved settlement and closer bid/offer trading spreads.

Working alongside our traders, the Trainee will be in involved issuing recall notifications, booking returns upon notification, chasing counterparts, liaising with other trading desks and responding to queries from Operations teams. In addition, the Trainee will assist with optimising the use of our trading and market data to identify trading opportunities and extract more value from our inventory and trading positions The Trainee will also be assisting with streamlining and refining existing trade related processes (recalls, returns etc).

During this 12 month placement the trainee will gain an understanding of our securities lending business, our client base and the broader market. This is a great opportunity to learn about a trading activity and build key technical skills within a global revenue driven business.

Main duties will include:

• Assist with returns and other trade related functions on the trading desk.
• Implement recalls as a result of client sales and ensure timely follow ups.
• Be the liaison between Trading and Operations: e.g. follow up with Settlements teams on failing trades.
• Assist with returning securities prior to periodic client recall dates.
• Propose solutions to streamline trading processes.
• Data crunching (funds analysis, borrower strategies analysis, benchmarking of existing trades).
• Production of periodic trading reporting.
• Assist the team generally with data support.

Candidate Profile:

We are looking for individuals who demonstrate a desire to learn and embrace a fast paced, dynamic environment. No prior experience or knowledge in securities lending is required. However, the candidate must possess excellent interpersonal skills, as needs to be an effective communicator and be able to work under pressure in a small enclosed team environment, with keen attention to detail.

The candidate must be inquisitive, enjoy interpreting information and problem solving. The ability to learn and navigate internal systems and large databases is essential. Excel, VBA or VBScript coding experience and knowledge of statistical analysis tools such as R is also beneficial.

Self-motivation is key as well an ability to create and develop ideas. The successful applicant will be a fast learner who genuinely wants to make the most of their time in a leading Financial Services Company and have a resourceful and ‘can do’ attitude

Recruitment Process:

Applications will be reviewed and short listed candidates will be contacted for a telephone interview initially. The formal interviews will take place in July with an anticipated start date of August 2018
